unplanned water birth

Well i thought i would my two cents worth on the water birth subject,

Well my preganacy was really good, i wasnt sick and i worked right up to the due date. (lookin back i should of gave myself a holiday, slap me) . Anyway Jade was late by

12days, so i was admitted to be induced. To be honest i was scared stiff as i had been all pregnacy about giving birth. I had no expectations on what drugs or styles of birth. I had no idea how i would feel or what i wanted to make me feel better. So fast forward to about to induce me when i amazingly go into labour anyway.I must have scared myself into it. haha.  I was asked if i wanted the spa for pain relief, hell yeah!!! I was going to try and stay covered up pre-labour stage since im a prude,but as soon as my spa was full i jumped in. Trust me i didnt care who seen me in the nude!!

The floatng in the spa took alot of pressure off my back, and i was sort of on my knees hanging my head over the edger draining the gas bottle. lol. The baths temperature is checked by the fantastic midwifes. So all you have to do is focus on squeezing the life out of your partners hand.I had a main midwife and some stupid one trying to get me to think i was calmly walking down a sunwarmed path. I gave her the finger when she wasnt looking, as i was unable to get any words out of my mouth. Alot of it did pass in a blur, but when i felt i could get jade out i told the midwifes, they helped me roll over in the spa they check you with a mirror, she went out to tell my doctor. So the good old pushing starts and her head is out. In my mind i could see dark hair swaying in the water and thinking....what is that!  anyhow a few more hard pushes and jade entered the world. My doctor missed it, i  told him i wasnt waiting for him!!!

Jade was placed on my chest as i was still in the spa, but i was stuffed and almost drowned us by slipping in the water, hub and midwifes were still there. I just kept asking if the baby was ok. I forgot to ask what sex it was. Hub cut the cord and they wrapped Jade, gave her to hub while i climbed out of the spa. They take you back to the bed to wait for the placenta, that was gross, midwifes wanted me to have a look but I had enough excitment for one day. Jade n I did the breast bonding. I even walked Jade back to my room. All of this was just 3hr after i had walked into the room. Lucky hey.

I would love to have a planned waterbirth next go, if im crazy enough to do it again. I did like the small spa as i could brace myself. Bet thats a pretty picture in your head. lol.

I was lucky enough to have  had Jade at John Flynn Hospital. It was a great place. Alot of help through my whole stay. They are worth their weight in gold. Just wish i could have brought one home.
