Organic facts

mcm by mcm Young Parent(August 2006) (rank 3rd)

Thinking about being an organic mummy? I am! Whether you are a mother or not, I think there are many benefits to choosing organic products.

Here are some facts to think about organics:

  • The term "organic' usually refers to  growing or processing without chemicals and pesticides
  • It is great and even ideal for babies to use organic as they are free of chemicals that can irritate and make baby sick
  • To guarantee a product is truly organic check that it states it is 'certified organic'

There are many organic products available if you look. There are some gorgeous soft toys, wonderful clothing, skin care and tasty food. It is more expensive but for me I can justify some luxury.

Or grow your own!
We grow oranges, carrots, tomatoes and mangoes.  We buy from the markets on a sunday from a regular stall, but you have to be careful with that.  One stall had the largest, brightest-coloured fruit and veg and saying it is organic when there is no way that was natural!  I wanted to start growing more things but have found my time is so stretched as it is.  Coles has a good vegetarian and Organic range.  I get the 4 packs of green apples, the 4 packs of pears and the mushrooms, they are our favourite from Coles and it's certified organic.  Good article.
