Planning to conceive.

Amerlinwinga by Amerlinwinga Talking(May 4th) (rank 197th)

I had difficulty conceiving when we first tried for a baby, so my next option was to go to the doctors to see what we could do to try and help it along a bit.

There was a few things we could do to maximise our chances to conceive and these are what i can remember the doctor say to us.

Healthy diet

Regular intercourse 2-3 times a week ( which isnt a prob for most lol)

Stop Smoking and recreational drug use

Alcohol in moderation

Regular excersise

And consider taking folic acid (3 months pre conception and during first trimester of pregnancy to reduce the risk of neural tube defects)

Healthy weight: ie Body mass index- They did say if you are over weight or over body mass index you could find it hard to coneive but not in all case, its all depending on the person themselves.

Once i was told to do this i was also ordered to go and get some blood work done which can also be done once you find out that your are preg.  but if you are planning a preg this can be done b4. The test that i was sent for where as follows:

Blood Group

rubella and chicken pox status

Hep B & Hep C

Rh factor,  Which i had no idea what this was.

He also explained to me the things i needed to know about the window period that i need to know about concieving. The most fertile time is between days 12 - 16 of a regular monthly cycle.

The time within the month when your body will release an egg (ovulate) ready for fertilisation. The time from the start of your period to ovulation  varies from woman to woman. On average ovulation occurs about 9-15 days after the day your period starts however it can range between 9 and 18 days depending on the length of your cycle. 2 days before ovulation gives the best chance of pregnancy.

This day and age we can purchase a ovulation test that could help alot of women to determine if they are ovulating. If this all fails there are alot of fertility methids that you could use to fall preg before even considering Ivf.

I used a few methods b4 concieving but at the end clomid was the one to do the trick for me. I am glad that this had worked as i wasnt far from ivf actually 2 weeks from it lol. It can be a stressful time trying and not falling pregnant. Doctor did say to relax but its not as easy as they say. Wen we did give up hope and we where told our last step was ivf and we had to save the money i relaxed and thought about how long it was going to take to raise the money and then sure enough wen relaxed and minds where on something else the clomid must of really kicked in and found myself preg.

I hope this can help some people who are planning a preg.

Re: Planning to conceive.

Not that I could imagine actually trying to conceive... This is pretty good health advice for anyone really, it makes a lot of sense.  Does this apply to the male and female, or is it just the female that has to abstain from the naughty things in life?  xox

Re: Planning to conceive.

good advice! It will certainly make for a healthier start for baby.

I had to get chicken pox vaccine when I mentioned to my OB/GYN that hubby and I were getting ready to start a family.
