I have written an article before about losing weight but want to share some tips I learnt to burn off those unwanted kilos faster. (These are tips I learnt from gym instructors).
First, though, I'm going to repeat myself a little (as in from the other article I wrote
on weight loss). You will not lose weight if you do not eat. Not eating just leads to eating disorders & illness. In the mornings eat breakfast so that it kickstarts your matabolism. Then you need to keep your matabolism going by eating. So have morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, snack. Stick to low-fat options, keep meat portions small, & avoid carbs at night. Drink plenty of water, especially if you are hungry at times when you should not eat - drinking water will make you feel fuller.
If you are like me & don't always eat breakfast (many mothers don't have time) try a meal replacement. At the moment I have Xantrax, which is recommended by doctors. I have the chocolate one & it is yummy! There's also a brochure inside with a meal guide on it.
Exercise...
To burn fat, do more cardio then muscle-toning. If you do muscle-toning exercises, do them every second day, do not do them everyday. Walking is one of the best exercises - to help burn the fat faster, speed up, slow down, speed up, etc, making your heart rate go up & down. (If you want to tone more than burn, it's opposite - you do more toning exercises than fat burning).
Here's what I was told to do at the gym: on the treadmill, walk at about 5 - 5.5 kph on no slope for 5 minutes, then increase the incline to 8 & reduce the speed to about 4 - 4.4 kph for another 5 min, then repeat. The instructor said this takes the heart rate up and down which burns fat faster. Now, we don't always have treadmills, but you can still implement this method in other ways, such as when out walking - speed walk for a while, slow down, speed up, etc.
Exercise around the same time each day. Now and then change your routine around. For instance, if you go for a walk then do other exercises, swap around. After a while of exercising & dieting, losing weight, your body will plateau, come to a bit of a standstill. At this stage your weight loss will slow down. This is the best time to change your routine, to re-start the body.
Remember the afterburn. The more exercise you do, the more afterburn you will have. That is, your body will keep burning fat after you've stopped exercising. It's good to do a bit more exercise at night so that your body is burning fat while you sleep.
Don't completely deprive yourself of treats. If you do, you will only crave more & put weight back on quickly if you go back to that type of food. Use treats as a reward for yourself. Also remember that what the scales say may not always indicate how much weight you have lost. Toning muscle will keep some weight there. To judge how much fat you have lost, measure yourself (or, like me, judge by how loose your clothes are getting!)
Always remember, you are you, & you are beautiful the way you are. But, if you want to lose weight, try these tips. And good luck!
