Fight the colds

JubaTata by JubaTata Walking(May 2008) (rank 500+)

First off this is my first minti spot so go easy on me   :)

We have a 21 month old who has been remarkably free from winter colds etc

These are our experiences which we think have played a part in not contracting colds and also fighting

them off as soon as possible.

Number one is nutrition, let the body's own immune system fight off the cold so work on building that up.

1.  Cut down or cut out sugar altogether if your child is cold prone, sugar depresses the immune system

2.  Cod Liver Oil.  This is probably the number one supplement educate yourself on the right dose for your child, make sure you also take some 'time off' taking it say go three weeks a month and then cycle off for one week.

3.  Infant probiotic - this is especially important if your child has ever had antibiotics, Natren make some great products or try using kefir.

(This is where is starts getting controversial - purely what we have done for our daughter)

4.  Cut out pasteurised milk, and try to find a source of raw milk (ok you are rolling your eyes now)

5.  Where ever you are in the vaccination schedule, stop. (Stick with me)

6.  Check out Weston A. Price foundation for more nutrition/preventative hints.

Now ways to minimise severity and duration

1.  Higher doses of Cod Liver Oil  initially gradually coming back down to normal doses.

2.  Olive leaf extract - Sandra Cabot has an excellent kid formulation

3.  Bee Pollen - be careful of allergies, however if your child is un-vaccinated you should not have a problem

4.  Foot and chest rub at night - not Vicks - speak to your aromatherapist for a formulation to serve the same and better purpose, cover the feet - we use leggings as she will always take her socks off.

5.  Think about a vaporiser in the childs room

Well just a few ideas which are working for us, I know it seems counter- intuitive but avoid the mercury laced flu vaccine, there is a non-mercury alternative but it still has aluminium in it.  Would you inject your child with aluminium?

Ok I hope all goes well for you this flu season

Re: Fight the colds

Very interesting advice and some ideas that are well worth checking out.  We try to ensure that our little MicroMe gets a lot of nutrients and natural vitamins from his diet each day, however if his immune system takes a tumble, it is good to have other supplements to fall back on.

My Homeopath swears by the Weston Price Foundation and has recently put me on to them.  I would also add eating food (organic) that is seasonal is good for your immune system as well.

Great advice.

Re: Fight the colds

Great first advice! I'm sure this would help a lot of people who love all natural remedies.

It may just be the difference between catching colds every week, if you're child is in daycare/pre-school, or catching colds 1 or 2x a month!
