EPILEPSY FIRST AID

electrifying02 by electrifying02 Talking Back(May 2008) (rank 63rd)

Epilepsy first aid

Have you ever wondered what would i do if someone had a epiletic fit . well here is first aid tips

In a convulsive seizure stay calm note the time do not put naything in the mouth as they can choke .

do not try to restain the person . do not apply cpr protect the person from the obvious injury

·       Place something soft under the head and sholders

·       Roll the person onto their side to keep air way clear

·       Stay with and reassure the person untill they have fully recovered .

If you believe the person is disoriented or behaving strangely as a result of a non convulsive seizure talk to them and try to guide and protect untill recover consiouness

Call an ambulance if a seizure contiues unabled or if consciouness is not regained after 5 minuates or when a serious injury has occured

Difrrent types of Epilepsy

A Tonic – Clonic Seizure – this can can cause a person to become stiff , lose consciousness and to jerk their body and limbs.  These seizures  usually only last a few minuates and when it is 0ver the person maybe confused and will probably want to sleep.

A Complex Partial Seizure – This can make a person look as if they are in a trance. They may make funny sounds , fidget with there clothes or repeat moverments . sometimes they they may wander around with no specfic purpose . these seizures a;so only last a few minuates afterwards the person may be confussed but that will soon pass .

An Abence Seizure – This makes a person look as if they are daydreaming . a person will suddenly stop what they are doing and just stare for a few second. Then they will recover . this may happen many times a day , and during a seizure they will not know what happened , or more imortantly , what they have missed out on.

So please if you see someone having a sezuire dont turn your back . i have gone ten yrs with out a seizure and i am not on medication .

But i still have to watch everything i do and how much sleep i have ..

I have got some of the first aid info from epilespy site

Thanks belxxx

Re: EPILEPSY FIRST AID

Thanks for sharing your personal experience and some simple easy advice to remember if you with someone and they have a seizure.  I appreciate simple advice like this, as sometimes, when you are faced with an emergency, it is hard to remember too many details.  The links have some advice that is more detailed, and it is good too. ; )

Re: EPILEPSY FIRST AID

should have noted the epilepsy website information came from. would make for better reading and further information if added a link. Not totally convinced about this advice. I know people with epilepsy and they all have to have different things done when having a seizure there should have been more added to this advice!

Re: EPILEPSY FIRST AID

My little brother had eilepsy, he'd have a fit at least once a day. It got to the point that if we had to be baby sat sometimes mum forgot to mention it, so my twin and i would freak our baby sitter out with it. We'd yell and carry on. In hind site I should never have done that. But a young girl dropped and had a fit beside me in the beauty shop. i actually caught her on the way down and the girls i worked with were stressing  as they didnt know what was going on. I knew too well of what i was supposed to do, old habbits die hard, Rj;s school even had to be taught what to do as he had them so offten. Greta topic.

My father and brother both have epilepsy. We have grown up watching my father have tonic clonic seizures and it is just as scary everytime he has one. This is great advice. Thank you so much for your article
