Happy Feet

Ravenheart by Ravenheart Talking(May 6th) (rank 194th)

I was looking thru atricles and there isnt much about feet so I decided to do a little research on feet.

Children feet are very fragile believe it or not. they need to be looked after properly to prevent adult problem like back ache for example. Their bones

in their feet dont harden untill they stop growing in their midteens. The nerves also dont fully develop until this time and they cannot tell if their feet are cramped so its up to us to check that they are not squished up and that they have plenty of room in their little shoes. If they have incorecctly fitted shoes the bones and joints could become distored and in serious cases need surgery to repair the damage.

Even as babies we need to make sure their grow suits are not to tight and causing the toes to be scrunched up, if need be cut the feet on these suits and put socks on to get more wear out of them. Its better to let a baby walk around bear foot when they are learning to walk as tempting as it is to buy them a nice pair of shoes. They learn to walk faster with bear feet because they can feel the floor under them and they fall less because they can use their toes for balance better with bear feet. If its cold you could use those sockies with the non slip bits on the bottom.

There are many "unhappy feet" or foot abnormalities

  • Pigeon Toes - This is when the toes are pointed inwards, this problem usually corrects it self, but if it is cause by the whole leg turning in you may need professional help to correct this.
  • Flat Feet - If you notice this problem talk to your doctor or foot doc they can reccomend exercised to correct this problem and special shoes too.
  • Club Foot - This is a malformation of the foot and ankle noticed at birth. sometimes the doctor can fix this at birth if not you will need to see a specialist and your baby may need to wear special boots or have it corrected surgically.

Other "unhappy feet" problems

  • Blister - (ouch) This is cause when there is rubbing on the feet usually caused by new shoes, you could wear 2 pairs of socks to prevent this but never pop the blister just put a bandais over it.
  • Athlete's Foot - aka Tinea, this is a fungal infection that is very itchy and irritating. It usually can be fixed with an anti funal cream.
  • Plantar Warts - Jessica had one of these and the local doctor had to cut it out, it wasnt nice. Its a wart the growns inwards instead of out and feels like walking on a stone which wouldnt be nice. Dont try to scratch it out yourself just see a doctor about it.
  • Ingrown toe nails - I hate this and my big toes get ingrown i have found that by snipping a v out of the middle of the toe nail it make the nail grow inward and out of the edge of the toe. This can be cause by small shoes, tight socks or cutting the nail to low.

Ways to make feet "Happy Feet"

  • Get shoes fitted professionaly
  • Wear cotton socks
  • Dry feet making sure to get inbetween the toes after baths and swimming
  • Wear thonges in public showers to prevent tinea

So remember keep you and your families feet HAPPY

Re: Happy Feet

great article sweetie! Mikayla-rose has pigeon feet, and they are slowly getting better. My doc advised above ankle boots to help, ( bought chucks) and also he recomened putting shoes on wrong feet to help them. Mikayla ADORES shoes, and most of the time puts them on the wrong way anyway so i think sghes fixing her own feet lol.

Re: Happy Feet

Great advice and i have always made sure that my children have being fitted properly with  the right shoes, as i say to them you only get one set.. Costs more, but worth it in the long run..
