today i was touched by so many people both on minti and off minti
my eyes feel so heavy from all the tears that have spilt over.
i went to the toilet and cried and tried to pull myself together because i work with the public and i
had to put on a brave face
after speaking to a stranger that was work related he agreed to participate in my work project as long as i did him a favour
without thinking i agreed and he thrust a pamphlet into my hand and proceeded to tell me his story
he found his soul mate after so many years apart he was her first boyfriend years ago at school. they met up at a school reunion only for her to die 6 years later
i have always told people that doctors are not gods and that you must listen and be in tune to your own body
this could help save your life just because a test comes back clear it doesnt mean that it is clear.
all this means is that nothing showed up on the test this time around
it is very important that if symptoms persist you need to seek medical advice
change doctors if you have to .
i for one was in my early thirties when i was literally on the floor clutching my tummy in agony. i was nauseous and i couldnt even walk over to hubby who had just come home from work and was in the toilet.
i pulled the phone down from the bench to ring the doctor. he gave me an injection to stop the pain and a referral to the specialist
i had an endoscopy that is a camera placed down mty mouth right down to my stomach. the doctor gave it the all clear. but when i was still having trouble months later an aquaintence told me that it sounded like an ulcer. she told me to have another endoscopy and ask for a biopsy
thats when they take sample of the tissue and test it. well the specialist argued that i was too young to have ulcers and that i had already had 2 or 3 endoscopys and there was no reason to have another.
after my insistence the specialist performed another endoscopy but this time took a biopsy he found that i had heli cbater polory which is a stomach bateria and one in ten people have it which is quite common yet not many people are aware of it. if it goes untreated it can lead to stomach cancer. it doesnt mean that you can get stomach cancer but the chances are increased
he also found that i had leasons which means that they could lead to ulcers. you see i at the time was on various medication and these were some of the side affects
today i was touched by this gentleman. he not only gave me the paphlet "growing awareness of ovarian cancer" by the national ovarian cancer network but he gave me a photocopy of the newspare article about his beloved
there is a picture of him and his 3 chidren which his beautiful wife embraced them with all the love she could offer as a step mother.
he wants women to be more aware of ovarian cancer as this is a silent killer and there is no early detection. there are symptoms of bloating tiredness and other symptoms that unfortunately are dismissed as food related and other problems. one way to be tested is to order a blood test called a ca125
a pap smear doesnt rule out ovarian cancer a pap smear is only helpful in ruling out cervical cancer
its very important for women to know this. ideally it is much better for a woman to see a female doctor only because a male doctor cannot know what its like to menstrate. so how can they be as sympathetic.
if there is any suggestion of ovarian cncer either through pelvic examination or ca125test its imperative that you seek referral to a gynaecololgical oncologist as soon as possible
about 75% of women diagnosed will be at the advanced stage where the cancer has spread and is very difficult to treat successfully
when ovarian cancer is diagnosed at an early stage the outlook is exceedingly good with as many as 90% of patients being cured unfortunately only abot 25% of diagnosis are at early stage
the incidence of ovarian cancer increases with age most cases occuring after the age of 45
however it can affect women of all ages. with the youngest reported case in australia being an 8 year old girl
most of this article was written from my source but satistics and symptoms were taken from source pamphlet" growing awareness of ovarian cancer website for everones info is www.ovca.org.au
