Whats for Dinner MUM

milko-fats by milko-fats Speaking(May 8th) (rank 393rd)

Dont you get sixk of teens especially saying whats for Dinner/Tea mum. Mine used to say that all the time & both my children had their partners staying for meals most nights. So I figured how to play their game. I decided it was my turn to say whats to eat. So I allocated one night a week for each of the 4 for them to cook a meal. I bought each one a different very easy step by step book with a folder to place other recipes they liked inside. This way each one learnt how to cook, also what it was like to hear "Whats To Eat". We did also allocate my husband one night a week BUT he got the tin of baked beans a loaf of bread & a tin opener out & said ENJOY, He got sacked straight away. Now my children have left home they have became great cooks.

Moral, Stop nagging or you might be the one being nagged at. Also learn as you go.

I hope this advice is ok for this site, please leave comments to let me know as I have left many pieces of advice but have had many deleted (by myself) because people said was not for this section) I am sorry but just trying to learn about your site & enjoy it like others

Re: Whats for Dinner MUM

great advice when my son went to darwin to do his teaching placement(he picked interstate for the experience) he stayed at the home of one of the office staff at the school.

she had that rule at her place so even my son had to cook one night a week. he opted for pasta because it was fast and easy

she was thus able to relax a little after work.

this is smart to teach your children  great article

When I get sick of the question, I tell them Pooh pie or soap sandwiches. They run quickly the other way.

I found the best way was to not cook at all lol. Everyone one knows not to ask me anymore or I tell them I'm waiting for them.

Re: Whats for Dinner MUM

LOL that old dreaded question.... and the answer is.... FOOD! You get two choices... eat it or leave it!!  Don't let them eat anything between about 3pm and tea time, encourage physical activities, go for a walk or take them for a run in the park. Keep serving small portions of different foods for them to try at meal times and don't stress if they don't eat it this time.

My sister as a child would only eat: Vitabrix, fritz and sauce sandwiches, honey on bread and roast potaoes... for years this was her only diet. She totally refused to try any other foods. Now she loves her vegies and all types of foods. As long as the child is not losing weight and is healthy, that's what counts. But if you are worried, contact your nearest child health centre for advice.

Re: Whats for Dinner MUM

When ever my kids ask whats for tea, I tell them that tea will be what ever is on your plate at tea time! lol

Keep trying with your advice pieces..I was absolutely gutted when my first piece was reported..turned out it was purely for having the word knife in it!

milko-fats, posting things in correct places on Minti helps members search for what they need when they need it. If there are non-parenting advice in the "write advice" section, it means members will have to sift through to find what they need. And if there are too many non-parenting advice, some membesr may feel frustrated and defeated that there is nothing that can help them. This is definitely not something we want happen. Most of us here on Minti are parents and we just want to help each other.

Re: Whats for Dinner MUM

My kids now at 4 and 6 help cokking dinner. next year my daughter will be given a knife to help cut things like onions. my son will be longer maybe 10.

This would be better advice if it was longer. there is a 50 word minimum, but i have noticed on here ppl dont like short advice. I think you should go through all the groups and find ones to post short things into. there are heaps.

it took me a while to deal with minti and find the right places to put things.

have fun and keep playing.

Re: Whats for Dinner MUM

We started about age 13 with simple things then they picked up fast from there. It was such a great learning & we got to sample some ummm different meals that we would not have tried before. Better than just one person cooking all the time & everyone bored of the same old.
