Winter Hints.

Crystalee by Crystalee Speaking(May 14th) (rank 232nd)

Hi, its the Nanna of them all again wanting to pass along to you all another of my Pearls that will help you all as much as it did me when I was raising my little ones.

Children have a terrrible habit of when they are sleeping of kicking off their doonas and blankets while sleeping, waking up cold through the night and then trying to climb into bed with you and partner because it is warmer in there than thier own beds. I found that as the kids were growing out of their pyjamas, instead of discarding them I would sit there for hours and hand sew the old pyjamas onto the new ones making them double lined. You simply turn the old ones inside out and sew them to the inside of the new ones. The kids think it is great as they have 'reversable pyjamas'. They are double the thickness and therefor stay warmer for longer periods throughout the winter cold nights.  Simply hand stitch along the sleeve and other edges in order to 'join them together' making two pyjamas into one.

I call it 'recycling, saving money, being frugal, making a budget work for me, stretching the dollars' , getting extra milage out of an item of clothing, but you may call it what you want.

I also did the same thing to thier dressing gowns as they grew out of them. If you found that you have already given the dressing gown away and made room for a newer one, then get yourself to an 'Op or Recycled shop' and pick one up for next to nothing. MAke thier "New" dressing gown also reversable and warmer.  Double the thickness in pyjamas and dressing gowns will make for warmer kids in the colder months making for better quality sleep making for happier kids. All it will take is for you to sit there and hand sew for awhile in front of the television while your babies are sleeping and its quiet.

Your kids will thank you and your purse will love you.

Re: Winter Hints.

Great suggestion.  Harrison is a wiggle worm and wouldn't stay under covers if his life depended on it.  He keeps waking and I can't figure out what it is.  Might get my MIL on this one as she is the sewer in the family...

Re: Winter Hints.

You can get the all in one jumpsuits for winter from Target they go up to about size 6 for kids. They are the only P.J's i use for my kids during winter. Anything to keep them out of our bed!!!
