This is a fun and easy way to do up your kids bedroom. The best thing is you can show it off to your friends and they can think you are artistic. the only skills you need are tracing and to paint in the lines.
Now we all know
how awesome the internet is so finding pictures to paint on our kids walls are easy and a few typed words away. for my purpose here as i am going hotwheels for alec and princess's for charlie i will use these examples. so you have done the research on the net and chosen the pics you want. All you need to do now is head done to a office supply shop or school shop and buy the overhead sheets (you know the plastic ones) and you need to either buy or hire a over head projector machine. they arent that mucha nd you can even approch your childs school and ask them. sometimes they are nice.
now once you have those 2 things print off your picture from the net or colouring book. you can use straight white paper with a black marker if you cant find the plastic but it works better with the marker. i normally do a ruff colur on white paper first so i have my colours i want.
from experience it is best to remove everything from the childs room if you are doing the whole room or just clear a wall. in my case Adam has one clean wall where i am going to put the princesses up, same with Alexis.
now for the fun part. chosing the colours from any good craft shop or bunnings/hardwear house places. i prefer the craft paints. the best colours to get are, black, white, primary red, blue and yellow as well as a good skin colour if painting ppl and brown (u cant make a nice brown) these are good if you can mix colours. if you are not happy doing this buy them as you want. i have a art background so i mix.
next thing is very important. you must clean the wall very well. i sugest using sugar soap. once throughly clean and dry you can get a 2b pencil (softer graphite) and the overhead projector. now comes the messing about. you need a hard box or chair to get the height you want and then enlarge by zooming and moving the overhead projector to the desired size and position. now trace picture on the wall. it is best for kids not to see this as the old saying goes "monkey see monkey do." once done comes the painting. a few brushes are good to have. a cup of water, i use jam jars and a plastic lid from a ice cream container is good too, for mixing. now if you are mixing it is good to write a code down. i use pea size quirts for mine. ie 2b-3r=p1 i name my purples and put a dash of colour on it. it is advisable to write the numbers of the colour you are using to if you run out u know which one to get.
paint to your hearts content now. have fun.
once you are finished take a pic and look at it. see if there are any mistakes ect. most paintings take a while to do so dont expect it to be a over nighter.
once done you can get a sealer from the hard ware place to protect it. i would strongly advice this as it will help protect it against childrens drawings. DO NOT use those magic erasers on this work because they pull the paint off the wall.
ok so a few years have past and your kid isnt into this any more, all you need to do is lightly sand the sealer away and paint over with white paint and re paint the room.
have fun and i hope this helps.
