If Your Baby Won't Try Veggies...

pfallerj by pfallerj Proud Parent(August 2006) (rank 12th)

Today's First Time Parenting Tip - Try a lighter colored vegetable like squash if your baby doesn't want to try veggies

If you're having trouble getting your son to stomach vegetables, try giving him a veggie that doesn't have that strong vegetable taste. You might be able to get

him to go for a blander food, and then build on that by introducing one with more taste.

Squash is a good one, because the taste isn't as strong as the darker colored carrots or sweet potatoes. And remember that sometimes it takes up to ten tries to get a kid to start liking a new food, so don't give up easy.

Tomato sauce (Ketchup)
As yucky as this may sound to some, and I am not sure of the sugar content, so it may not be a good thing.....  Don't take my word for it... But I found that if I put just a tad little bit of tomato sauce on his vegetables (anything for that matter) he eats it all. I have no idea what the fasination is with Tomato sauce but it works to get my son to eat.. I don't smother every thing in it just to give it a little more taste for him...

I agree
I do this with miss3.7. let her try things a few times. I won't rule out the food she doesn't like the first time she spits it out.

great advice
when my son started to eat baby food he would only eat orange and yellow veggies...absolutely nothing that was green. Our pediatrician said not to worry about it.  She said that once he starts eating real solid food I could reintroduce peas and different beans.  She said that the non-pureed veggies are much more appealing to small children and most kids that wont eat certain baby foods have no problem with the whole food once they are able to eat finger foods.
