first time buying baby clothes

yummymumy207 by yummymumy207 Speaking(June 2008) (rank 500+)

first time buying baby clothes for your preemie, Newborn, infant, Crawler, Toddler, Walker
can be stressfull (no matter what stage your at) especialy when you new to the whole idea, new baby, new things etc
i know i was, ill proudly put up my hand lol,

here some guidlines

that i have been told and found through family, friends, neighbours, people in public, net etc

this is A size guide that i found off the net i followed roughly to help me along the way:
  sizes   stages           kilos                             months
00000 preemies -between 1.81 kg and 2.72 kgs
 0000  Newborns -2.72 between 4kg -birth to 3 months
  000   infant -4kg between 6 kg -3 months to 6 months
   00    Crawler -between 6 and 8 kgs -6 months to 9 months
    0     Toddler- 8 between 10 kgs- 9 months to 12 months
    1     Walker -above 10kgs -12 months +

Something else to remember is that all the clothing sizes can be different from brand to brand.
example,as most of you found Bonds sizes seem to be on the small side (i learnt this after i bought them i through the docet out lol),

so now  i find that if i buy Bonds cloths i go one size up compared to the size i would normaly get in other brands.

thank you for reading my tips on first time buying baby clothes for your preemie, Newborn, infant, Crawler, Toddler, Walker, i hope people can relate to it and use it in the near future

Re: first time buying baby clothes

It not only depends on the brand, but also the style and what country you are in.  Oh, and whether or not the clothing was bought in the dark ages!lol.  Just found that Australian size 0 is going to fit my 1 year old properly in the next couple of months, where as with my other 3, they were out of it by this age and into just the 1's.  and I've measured the clothes against each other too.

Lovely article, hope it makes that dizzying experience of baby clothes shopping easier for some parents.  I'm old hand at it now! lol.

Re: first time buying baby clothes

Here in the U.S., infant clothing are listed by age (newborn, 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-9, 9-12, 18 months, 24 months). And they also have a weight listing on them. The age listing is not the best way to shop because some babies are smaller and some are bigger (my twins are wearing the right age clothes, but my son at 12 months was wearing clothes for  3 year olds) so it's generally better to shop by weight and ignore the age.

It's true here too that clothing sizes are different from brand to brand. It would be so much easier on all of us if the sizing becomes standardized.

Re: first time buying baby clothes

Good advice, I found it hard choosing sizes for my unborn as I had no idea how big he was going to be.  He is now in size 0-1 tops and 0 bottoms.

I agree with the bonds sizes, great clothing but you have to go up in a size compared to other brands

Re: first time buying baby clothes

That is a great size chart you put up cos ive been wondering at what age what sizes they wear. Im having a small baby but i still didnt buy any 00000 cos they grow pretty fast. I have lots of 0000 and 000 tho, and they seem to be in them for a few months so thats pretty good.

Thanks so much for putting up that chart, ive been wondering about it for ages.
