Down but not out....All Saints All Wrong!

champers1964 by champers1964 Speaking(June 6th) (rank 500+)

My name is Miriam..

I have 6 children (one in heaven), and one grandson.

My middle son is a good looking, some what rebelious 14 year old, who is in his 1st year of high school. He has several friends, enjoys footy and loves playing on his x-box.

Jack also has Down Syndrome.

"Down syndrome is caused by an extra copy of chromosome 21 inside each of the body's cells (hence the biological term, Trisomy 21). It is a chromosomal accident, not known to be caused by anything the parents may have done before or during pregnancy. Down syndrome is recognisable at birth because of some typical physical characteristics and diagnosis will be confirmed by chromosome analysis."

Down Syndrome is NOT a result of an incestious relationship, (I dont even have a brother!)

Please Please Please Mintis if you hear anyone comment about the stupid All Saints program, and consider any of the views expressed to be factual.....enlighten them.

"There is absolutely no increase in the risk of Down syndrome or of other chromosomal conditions for the offspring of incestuous relationships."

This has been very upsetting for families of people with Down Syndrome, and already some children have been victimised as a result.

We are regular families who just happen to have a family member with Down Syndrome and we do not deserve to be stigmitised in this way.

PS Darkened Angel has asked that I expand on and write about Down Syndrome. I am no expert, but a mum who has personal experience raising a child with Down Syndrome so I will start to write some advice based purely on my own experiences.

In the meantime I would just like to add this to the advice page and will write futher in another entry.

Regards Miriam

I couldn't believe that they aired that storyline - let alone write it...

I thought I'd add this link here - it's about the actual story and what's transpired since then.

There's also a guide to appropriate language on the page - for those who are interested - listing words and terms that are not acceptable these days and things you can replace them with.

Thanks for bringing this up though - well done!

Cheers

OB

Re: Down but not out....All Saints All Wrong!

I live in Uk so never heard of the show so I am assuming that this is an Australian show??

I do think that to say this is slander against all fmailes with Down's children and if people complain to the broadcaster the show will either have to prove this fact is correct that they are saying or do a public apology.

My son has ADHD,ODD and Tics and if I ever hear of discrimination I hit the roof! I used to be a play group disabled helper in the summer and we had a variety of children but no one ever said nasty things and if they did we would deal with them, all children are beautiful and worthy of respect irespective of a disability!

That show is def out of order!!

xx

I knew there was a reason why I never bothered watching shows like that! Now I know what it is, they're full of ****.

Looking forward to reading more about DS and your experience with it as a mother.

Cheers, DA

Thanks Miriam - I wasn't aware of the show, but in this day and age to infer what they have is almost barbaric - I thought we all knew better than that!  I look forward to your articles.
