Re: Raiding cupboards and playing with "non-toys"

Question:
Hi all,
Me again. I was wondering if any of you allow your little toddlers to raid cupboards and play with what they find there. My little Aaliyah loves
our plastics cupboard, and there is nothing dangerous there, but I've usually told her to stay out of it mainly cause she spreads the plastics everywhere and can be a pain in the bum to clean up. However, I'm reconsidering my stance and thinking of allowing her to play with the plastics in the cupboard as long as she only gets a few at a time, or stays in the kitchen playing on the floor with them. What do you think? What do you do?
My Advice:
Ahh the tupperware cupboard!. I used to have locks on the other cupboards ( dangerous ones) and would alow the boys to play in the tupperware.plastic cupboard. I used to get in and play with them as well. I always let them play asit increased their imagination as the would play make believe. It was awesome watching them create and learn as we made cakes, dinners, anything that took their fancy. It also helped with the motor skills like stacking building etc. Other things we used to do was get paper and trace around say a circle bowl then get the kids to put their feet or hands or anything in the tracing of the bowl and then trace around them on the inside of the bowl. The kids used to love having the body parts in drawings.
If it is bothering you having to clean up after woods then allow your child to get so many out then lock the cupboard. Also allow her/him to have a wooden spoon as well for the mixing bankging etc.
Enjoy this time as it goes so fast. I am looking foward to when Kalani is at this stage, have a bit to go though she is only 8 weeks lol
love n hugs
