Re: start solids

Question:

i have 3 month old and i am starting to think about solids for her.

i would like to make her food at home and want to make some food ahead of time-before i go back to work. any suggestions on what to introduce first?

My Advice:
hi

oh this is a fun step lol. I would try weetbix first as i know a lot of mum and dads who use this as a first.  AS this is a different texture I found my kids took about a week to get used to it. After I gave them the morning feed of weetbix I followed with a feed wether it be boob ort bottle. I also noticed a difference in their sleeping as their bellies were more fuller. I made all my food at home and froze it. They first few times when I was introducing veges I did them seperate then gradually mixed them together. I also did the same with the fruit.

I hope this is advice that helps you. Also just be aware that bubs bowel movenments will change and it might make her a bit constipated this is normal as the body iis getting used to different foods.

good luck

Re: solids

3 months seems VERY early to be introducing solids... Especially weet bix, as there is a chance of an allergic reaction.  I would recommend consulting a medical professional before starting solids this early, and see what they say.

Re: solids

Oh no I definately wouldn't recommend weetbix this young or in fact under 12mths. They are really high in salt and cause all sorts of bowel troubles because they are such a 'harsh' food.

Rice cereal is usually started first or barring that fruit or veggies. But as I replied to anonymous 3 mths is way too early to start solids anyway

Re: solids

I would not recommend weetbix at all at this age. The first food is that doctors or baby health nurses would advise is rice cereal- farex or heinz brand.  This is mixed with breast milk or formula to a runny consistancy. Gradually increase thickness. Next foods to try would be puree pears, apple or vegetables. At frist baby may only eat a few teaspoons, gradually building to a few tablespoons.

Re: solids

sorry but this mum would be advised not to give weet bix at a early age, as it can cause bowel problems etc

The first cereal to give a baby is the ones on the market.- farex or heinz..

Re: solids

I happen to agree with you cazza,

Feeding is a slow gradual process.  I would reccommend waiting until your baby showes signs of wanting food and can sit up by themselves.

Start of slowly with rice cereal give one or two teaspoons and then gradually increase the amount.

Little stomachs can not cope with large amounts of food at a time.
