My Advice:

Hi ,

Here is a trick that I learned while watching a documentry on of all things "The Queen of Englands" cleaning staff . They were sharing cleaning tricks and tips that they had picked up along the way. This trick  works EXCELLENTLY and has become a huge hit in my family . .

All you need is a hot iron and talcum powder and a paper towel. Here are the step by step instructions

  1. Lay garment flat on ironing board
  2. Cover mark with talcum powder
  3. Then place paper towel on top of talcum powder
  4. Place hot iron onto paper towel and press the steam button a few times
  5. Finally brush away powder and rewash the garment

When I first shared this idea with my wife she laughed as she thought i was kidding, so to prove my point I picked one of the bits of clothing she had chucked down to soak and scrub and I showed her. It worked so well that you could already see the results a little before rewashing the top I was doing. This is now is a regular practice in our household every time we are doing the ironing and it has saved ME money as I am not buying so many clothes anymore. (My wife hates stains and of she can't get rid em then she gets rid of the garment)

I'd like to say thanks to my wife for helping me to set out my first article. I spoke and she typed, next time I will try typing . . he he he

I hope you find this hint useful

Thanks MrMintyMan

Re: GET RID OF oil stains in your clothing

The heat from the iron melts/softens the oil and then the talc powder absorbs it away from the fabric, and the paper towel keeps it all from getting the iron grotty and spreading it everywhere and making it worse. Thus, it will work with pretty much any kind of oil or wax based product, including engine grease. You're a clever guy for knowing that one! See, vegging in front of the TV can be useful after all! Fetch him another beer Alana, quick, you never know when he might learn something else useful! LOL

However, with things like oil paints it will lift the oil fine, but it may not lift all of the actual pigment, so that might have to be dealt with another way... like wearing a paint smock. LOL

Also works on wax drippings. Like on your tablecloth etc - you know after you have a nice romantic dinner just the two of you (like that ever happens any more in this household hehehe)

I will have to bookmark this and give it a go next time hubby is deep frying! lol.  I do find though, that our wash boost does tend to get it out as well.

Re: GET RID OF oil stains in your clothing

This is a good trick, I have heard of something similar working... When I used to work for Honda, my boss got some grease on my suit.  I was going to give him the dry cleaning bill, but he got it off with baby wipes, it was like new.
