Advice about advice

RebandIsabelle by RebandIsabelle Walking(July 2008) (rank 500+)

I suppose the only advice I can give is that you should feel free to do what you like with advice no matter where you get it.

Over the last 8 months Ive had advice from all over, friends, family, books, doctors, midwifes, health visitors - some was great,

some not so great but worked when combined with other advice and tweaked a little and some terrible.

When the advice I received from Health Professionals was (in my opinion) terrible, I went in search of a second and third opinion.

As one of my friends said to me the other day...you know your baby and what is right for your family :)  Trust your instincts.

ITA.  I know most people mean well, but you do get some that try to tell you what you should do based on what they did because it's the right way in their opinion.  I usually just say thanks, this works for us, or we'll give that  shot sometime.  Sometimes I might be completely opposed to their suggestion but I don't really want to hurt anyones feelings.

Re: Advice about advice

I got so much "advice" while I was pregnant with my first and still working. If I listened to half of what people said I would have gone insane with worry! People say the stupidest and most inconsiderate things. The worst was people who had kids telling me what I should and shouldn't do.

No one is born a perfect parent but I do think that we, as women, are born with a God-given gift of intuition that kicks in with parenthood. I tend to trust that more then anything.

Very short sweet and to the point, nice advice.  It pays to accept advice graciously, and use it to help you decide what is best for you... I found persistent unsolicited advice can be warded off by saying 'thank you, I will ask you if I need any advice ; )'
