things to do list

anniebabe by anniebabe Talking(July 2nd) (rank 155th)

i felt compelled to write this tonight after yet again i allowed my free sms messages that i won to lapse

i am going to go back to basics and get my "things to do list"  up and running everyday

when the children were young and i

was working on my days off or weekends i would write a list of things to do .

it would be basic things on the list as well as larger tasks and i would cross them off as i achieved them it didnt matter what order i did them in but the idea was that everytime i had crossed off something "i felt i had achieved something"

now this especially great for mothers out there that feel that they are not tidy or not coping

my list would look something like this

do the shopping

make beds

wash breakfast dishes

clear the table

wash clothes

buy present and card for friends birthday

iron

go to bingo

take friend to doctor

do puzzles

ring the gas company

ring mum

go to friends house for coffee

cook

turn sons jeans

then i cross them off now if i dont get time to turn sons jeans it goes on the list again for tomorrow. this way i feel as if i have achieved a lot in my day and i feel so good about myself.

also by not doing a task and putting it on tomorrows list i try to make sure that i will do it the next day that way its not forgotton totally

but you see now that my children have grown its like i didnt need it anymore. wrong big mistake thats why my sms s cinema tickets and shopping vouchers had expired . if i had my list going they would have been on the list for things to do so i would have got around to doing it

i hope this helps someone. it is psychology and if it gets results why not.

cheers annie

Re: things to do list

My list does look like this.  Without a list my life just does not work properly and I feel completely disorganised.  I am pleased to hear that others have to operate like this as I always thought that I was a bit too much of a control freak. (So does my family!  They always joke about mums lists)

Re: things to do list

even if you half succeed .you will find that  each time it gets easier its like it all happens automatically and it falls into place

the fact that you have tried is an excellent start . just remember dont be so hard on yourself thats the main thing

have a great day tomorrow

Re: things to do list

I'm lost without my to-do list! I always have one going so that i don't forget things. As I'm so busy right now, if I didn't then I would forget heaps lol. I also have a list on the fridge for shopping. When something runs out, it goes on the list. I find it's the best and easiest way to stay organised.

Great advice, Annie.

Re: things to do list

Couldn't agree with you more... been  doing lists, whether it be on a piece of paper of in my diary for more years then i will admit to. I also have  what i call a future board. where i keep a list of things that have to done by a certain date.

I do get a sense of accomplishment when i have achieved, everything on my list.

Great advice and well set out!

Cheers Janice

I love my list but unfortunately I tend to still put my list to the side lol  But when I do stick to it, its true you feel so good at the end of the day when so many things have been done and crossed off xxxxx

Re: things to do list

Hi Annie !

I TOTALLY agree with you !!

i use lists ALL THE TIME.. Probably even MORE often than I should. haha

I used to write my shopping list on paper..
But now I write it into my mobile phone.. under "Drafts" (as an SMS)..
That way, if I'm doing dishes and I think: "I need more Trix", then I can quickly type it into my phone :)
And when we go shopping, I just delete the item off the list, as we find it :)

And I also do my "To do list' on my phone too..
I'll usually type something like: "Do dishes, do washing, get groceries, tell Lawrence to fix car.." etc. lol

It works so well..
Because it also gives you can idea of how much you need to do, so you can aim to finish the things by a certain time...

And if I plan to go out or something.. I'll write down a schedule.. For example:
9am - Wake up and feed Alisha
9.30am - Have a shower
10am - Leave the house

This sorta thing helps a lot.. Because then you're never late to appointments :)
Well, not very much anyway. haha

Thank you sharing this !!!!!!

Re: things to do list

thanks for your support  yeah it works well .

i notice the difference when i might go a week without jotting things down and even though things are on the back of my mind to do or i place them somwhere to do later i will find them after deadline eg i send in my comps every week for thats life and take5 and i have missed deadlines not because i havent done them (and that includes already in envelope and addressed ready for posting) but because i havent bothered that week to make the list

cheers annie

Re: things to do list

Hi there,

Having a 'to do' list is great!! . . Every night both my hubby and I will think of things that need to be done the next day so we add it to our 'list' . . This works really well for our family and I highly recommend it to all . . . Thanks for your article . .

Cheers Kellz

Re: things to do list

thanks

its basic things that help people get through there are so many people that feel "they arent coping " when really they are doing a great job

i judt thought that this also helps people that are hard on themselves to realise that they are worthy as mums and certainly they do plenty

cheers annie

Re: things to do list

Simple as it sounds, a list is a very sensible way to be organised... If you wrote it in your diary at the same time every evening, it is a good excercise to organise your thoughts and help you to sleep better, without all those 'things to do' swirling around in your head.

While it is tempting to keep adding those 'horrid tasks' to the next day, you start to enjoy the sense of self achievement that you get by actually completing your list - so it is good for your self esteem.

Taking the time to be organised, plan your day, and prioritise your tasks actually saves time, and means that you should have less stress and feel confident - great post!

Re: things to do list

cant agree more but not all people can cope with all on the list so even if something doesnt get done i want others to know that they dont need to stress just add it on the list for the next day

so its ok not to be perfect

Re: things to do list

Hi this is great advice. I always have a to do list but mine tends to have things like have a shower, don't forget to give Amy a solids feed (just started 3 meals a day). My house is crazy at the best of times but having 2 kids i think i need to get bigger paper.

Re: things to do list

yeah they were just examples i write to have ashower dress and the works too.

i know what you mean about bigger paper but at the end it makes you feel so good about yourself  because the proof is in the writing and no matter what you do during the day like feed bathe the children tend to them when your crying they are all tasks that have been completed

cheers annie

hi ems

this is also good for supermarket shopping that way you dont go off tangent so much and blow the budget.

because you have a rough idea of what you are going to spend

Re: things to do list

i know especially if you also work

but thats why the list is great beacuase if you dont assomplish it that day its back on the list for the next.

with no list some taskd just stay there "i will get around to it one day" and then 10 20 30 40 years go by
