Father doesn't always know best.

Nowhereman80 by Nowhereman80 Speaking(July 10th) (rank 500+)

There are times we as father's who have traveled the road of fatherhood ahead of those who are just starting puff out our chests; or better yet, thumping them like Tarzan and proclaim to the world that we know everything under the sun to be father.

Yet! Yet, we are reminded by our mate(the mother of  your lil brood) , that we do not not know everything under the sun. Like for example getting simple directions to a location. The manly side and the father side say, " We don't need no stinking directions!"  Even when the last of your kids tells you also the same thing we just blow it off. Who are they to tell us we need simple instructions to find a location.

Sooo, as a bonafide father who seems he know best; he forgoes the directions and in the process loses himself going to said location, and to boot, the person you are taking there arrives 15 minutes late to an important seminar. Now only do you have the wrath of the wife to contend with, but know even the lil angel who watch grow up yell at you for being such a goof ball.

So gentlemen the morale of the story is ASK FOR DIRECTIONS.  Saves you a lot of heart burn and the wrath's of you beloved little one and Jane from throwing you off the tree you call your castle.

Who said Man is Lord of the Manor???

Not being one to stop and ask for directions... I must concur that I am not a 'father that always knows best' LOL ; )   I think the metaphor runs deeper than for when one is just driving around.  Whenever it may be, ask for help; learn from the mistakes of other's instead of repeating them; don't be afraid to admit you aren't perfect.  Cheers - Lui ; )

Re: Father doesn't always know best.

Wouldn't it be easier for a "mere male" to look at a map book if he is too stubourn to accept directions.

It was Neanderthal man that beat his chest to attract a mate....while we may have originated from them many moons have past if we think we still need to behave in such a way.

The same way we put our children on a pedestal and sing praise of them to all, our children, "in a manner of speaking" beat our chests for us as they argue the point about who's dad is the best....my dad this, my dad that.

I am sorry to be objective of your POV Nowhereman but keep up the good work, it sounds like you should expect fewer bruises on your chest in years to come.

Nothing wrong with being objective, is this not what makes us a better person. To take the positive and negative critism and grow with it. As for having  bruises on my chest for years to come. Wearing a Kevlar vest don't hurt as much when I hit my chest.
