Re: Perchance to sleep?
Asked by claree

Question:
Does anyone have any suggestions for getting some sleep after years of being woken up in the middle of the night by kids? I feel like I'm perennially on the alert now, so sleep comes veerrry sloowly.

My Advice:

This is a method of self-hypnosis used by Milton Ericsson and is a great way to realx for parents or children - sleep will then follow.

Choose something to look at which is not disturbing for you - it can be a picture, a blank wall, curtains.

Name 5 things you can see -  e.g   the shadow on the wall, the roses on the curtain -   you can repeat ones you've already said.

then 5 things you can hear  -    eg my heart beating, the clock ticking   again you can repeat

then 5 physical sensations -   eg   the sheet on my skin, my breath in my nose

The repeat the process naming 4 things in each category

Then 3

then 2

then 1.

If you'e still alert start again for 5 in each category and work you way down.
