planning a trip to dineyland disneyworld/ things you should know

anniebabe by anniebabe Talking(July 19th) (rank 144th)

i thought i would give a little advice  and history background about disneyland  california (renamed disneyland park to distinguish it from the larger disney land resort complex called disneyworld)

earlier this year about 3 months ago my son who is 25 and doing a 3 year degree at

uni , came home after coaching  a division of the under 14s soccer team for the australian footbal skool they had just finished a major tournament that was held amongst all vistoria . they had one major tournament held over an entire weekend in mildura. then in bendigo (to which i attended ) . you can google  australian football skool

there were one hundred coaches to which it was narrowed down to 24 and of the 24 down to  the final four. so i am a very proud mum as you can see. but there is so much planning involved and of course without the dedication of parents and children (the players themselves that is ) none of this is also possible.

so there were moments when my son thought he wouldnt have a team together . regardless of having other major commitments exams  assignements , coaching and playing my son perservered and everything fell into place. he even organised during the school holidays to get away with their team manager (thanks heather) to go away for 3 days so that they could bond and practise as a team. keep in mind this is very hard when the players are all playing for different teams all over victoria.

so we come to disneyland and disneyworld. i myself was confused until my son had explained that it was disneyworld florida that they were going to and not disneyland in california . so here is the background  sourced by google " wikipedia free encyclopedia "

1 DISNEYLAND  located in ANAHEIM CALIFORNIA   owned and operated by walt disney it opened on july 17 1955 .

disneyland holds the distinction of being the only theme park to be designed built opened and operated by walt disney. sadly he died  on december15th 1966 before his dream of the other site DISNEYWORLD FLORIDA was realised  (walt disney was a remarkable man had such vast dreams and turned them to reality a man very advanced for the period he was born in )

ok this is the confusion so in 1998 the theme park (disneyland that is) was rebranded  DISNEYLAND PARK to distinguish it from the larger DISNEYLAND RESORT COMPLEX in  2007 over 14,800,000 people visited the park making it the second most visited park in the whole world behind the magic kingdom DISNEYWORLD 1

now we come to the ever so popular DISNEYWORLD ORLANDO FLORIDA .2 this is the most visited and largest recreational resort in the world. there are 4 theme parks two water parks and twenty three themed hotels numerous shopping dining entertainment and recreational venues. including disneys wide world of sports complex 2  hence the international world youth tournament taking place there . (how impressive and overwhelming  would this be to some of the children who have never ventured out of victoria before )

2 in 1959 walt disney production began looking for land for a second resort to supplement disneyland which opened in california in 1955

market surveys revealed that only 2% of disneylands visitors came from east of the mississippi river whereas 75% of population of united states lived additionally.

walt disney disliked the businesses that had sprung around disneyland and wanted control of  a much larger area of land.

orlando florida was one of many sites walt disney looked at in 1963

it opened on october 1st 1971 AS MAGIC KINGDOM  theme park epcot was added in october 1st 1982  disneys hollywood studios on may 1st 1989 and disneys animal kingdom april 22 1998.

sadly as stated earlier walt disney died on december 15 1966 5 years before his dream become a reality

interesting enough despite marketing claims and popular misconceptions the florida resort is not located in florida its actually outside the perimeter the majority of the actaul site is in ORANGE COUNTY 2

so my advice to anyone who wants to visit the resort either one of disneyworld or disneyland . make sure you plan have an itinerary make sure you have booked. there is even maps that you can google and print off because believe me until my son was going there i knew it was huge but the reality of it all didnt sink in until he had pointed out all the  theme parks water parks hotel complex night club and sports complex they were going to visit.i have even heard of families that have missed out on seeing disneyworld because they hadnt planned ahead and just couldnt organise it in the little time they had allowed in their travels.

as this involves children it would be very heartbreaking for children if they did travel half way round the world just to miss out. remember to that a lot of things are very popular like the star wars rides and certain disney things like the hollywood studios and magic kingdom

for those that are going to be lucky enough and travel to either dineyland or disneyworld make sure you take plenty of photos as this  "a once in a lifetime experience"

cheers annie

Re: planning a trip to dineyland disneyworld/ things you should know

We went to Disneyworld in FL when my son was 18months. With a very young one, we definitely had to do planning, which we did even before our flight to FL. We stayed for 5 days, and didn't get to all the parks and definitely didn't make everything withing each park. We highlighted each places in each parks that were toddler friendly and we went there. All this with a nap break in the middle of the day! But since we had a park hopper pass (you can go in and out of any parks), it wasn't a big deal. We throughly enjoyed ourselves.  I think had we not planned out the trip, we would have wasted a great deal of time.

I have been to the original Disneyland In California, we had a 5 day pass and still didn't get to do all the rides!!

This was 13 years ago and back then you could also get an early bird pass that got you in at 6am instead of 8am when it opened to the public. They only allowed so many of these passes each day to keep numbers down and the idea is to do the popular rides in that time so the line up isn't so long. They may still do this.

Re: planning a trip to dineyland disneyworld/ things you should know

hi

disneyworld in florida is huge so this way you have more range .lots of different theme parks. i havent had a chance to speak to my son about it but their group were about one hundred people but i think they split up in threes as in under 13 14 and 17 .

im not sure if parents went seperately but the team was to stay with coach and team manager . i know that they went to two theme parks magical kingdom and epcot  both are very popular i believe. when i found out more i will update

cheers annie

they still have the same thing, but only for disney members - meaning, you stayed within the Disney resort. It was great because we got to go earlier like you mentioned, and able to stay longer while non-members had to leave the park.

Re: planning a trip to dineyland disneyworld/ things you should know

It is huge, and it is definitely good advice to plan and organise any sort of trip like this.  Theme parks take time to get around, and with kids, they take even longer, and it is even more important to be on your toes.  Congratulations to your son and everyone involved as well ; )

Re: planning a trip to dineyland disneyworld/ things you should know

thanks

you being such a sportsperson you will understand all the hard work dedication training that goes into all this so the sports tournament was fantastic and to be held at disneyworld even better.

theme parks definately need organising with kids in this case they had an entourage of kids!!! i believe it went well

cheers annie
