I got the idea to write this from Izzy's lastest advice on a awesome book she got her son. So i thought I would share with you a wonderful set of PC games i have for my kids. I was given the kidygarden one from my MIL a few
years ago and saw them again recently at my local Gaming shop.
These games are called Jump Start by knowledge and adventure. They start at age 2 and go on and on. I think they go up to about 12, but it doesnt say, just says older kids. I guess it is untill they no olonger find them appealing.
My kids love these games. we currently have preschool, kindy, grade 1 and grade 2. My son love the grade 1 and my daughter loves preschool and kindy.
They cover all area's of curriculum at school with number, maths, language and art. in one they teach around the world, very basic but good.
It is all done by cartoon as kids love cartoons and I have found relate to them very well. These programs are also comical so the kids dont realise they are learning. for instance one of the maths ones my kids like is fizzy drink, you give the bunny so many of a coloured drink and he drinks them and you have to say how many is left. Another one they like is fractions and that is done on a pizza. your order is up and you need to put 1/4 with this and 1/2 with that and 1/4 with something else. you have a time limit too. The art stuff is fun too. also while they are playing all these educational games you are working up for a big race and whether you win or lose you get to print out a certficate. its really good. They even teach different languages.
My MIL has this in her Kindy/Pre Primary class and all her kids love it every year. My kids love being able to play at Grandma's too.
These games are really cheap too, cheaper if you are in the US as tou can buy online with free postage and there are special DL's as well you can pay for. I just went on the site to put here and there are so many other things on there now than there was 3 years ago when we first got the Kindy one.
We bought ours at EB games, they were $39.90 but we always get them at $20. I think I even got 1 at $10. each box has 3-4 cd's in them and I think they are very much value for money as well as a great learning tool for the kids. Specially in the day and age of everything being on the PC.
