living with a hypo plastic left heart baby

hi there

we told my son was going to be born with a major heart defect called hypoplastic left heart sydrome we found this out at 17.5 weeks gestation we were givin the 3 options 1 termate 

               2 compassionate care

no medical intervention

               3 surgery wich would consist of a 3 part open heart ops

we chose 3 he was born august 22nd 2007 he had his first surgery on the early hrs of the 24th it went for some 16 hrs as they had a little trouble getting him off the heart bypass machine all was going fine till his kidneys stated to shut down they fixed that up and on the 12th of september we came home to sydney while we awaited his second op we went back to melbourne on the 28th of november we were cancelled ome 4 times till he had the surgery on the 17th of december everything went smooth and were aloud home on christmas eve the best chrissie present ever since then he has done well started to crawl in may all though we do end up in hospital quit alot but i dont know what life would of been wihout him he has the amazing charcter almost like he knows he is so lucky to be alive he does not cry or sook very often even whne he is sick in hospital heis still laughing and playing hope this small piece of info helps anyone havibg to face what we have in the last 18months

Thanks so much for sharing your story with us . . 

Your little man looks looks so healthy and very vibrant and this is a testimony to what GREAT parents you are . ..  WELL DONE . . . .  Being a mum of a chronically ill bub is no easy feat and going into it with some knowledge must have been a great thing although living it and knowing about it are two different things . .

My two yr old has also suffered serious health issues and still does and we too end up in hospital a fair bit bit like you we could NOT imagaine a world without our beautiful angel . . . .

he is such a gorgous little boy but i can say that cos im his lucky aunty :) just wanted to say thank u for giving him a chance to be here with us! and we are all so proud of u for everything u do for him and his big sister.
