Staying Young

psychstudent08 by psychstudent08 Walking(August 3rd) (rank 500+)
No, this is not an article for some anti-aging cream that'll make you look like the sexy 20 yr old you left in the dust when you popped out your first muffin. Instead, its about the little (or sometimes big) things that we can do to keep us young at HEART.
I got the idea for this article last tuesday when me and my wife decided to leave Little Man with my cousin for a few hours while her and I go to see the Foo Fighters at the Izod Center (we don't get out often, but when we do, we go big). I was standing on the ground floor, only a few feet from my rock and roll idol (Dave Grohl), jumping up and down and singing along to every song that I knew when I realized how old I had actually gotten. Not old in a physical sense, but in an emotional and personal sense. Becoming a dad, and working in a field that requires an enormous amount of responsibility and maturity (social work), has forced me to become an adult fairly quickly. Standing their among thousands of likewise star struck fans reminded me that I am still pretty young inside, and that I shouldn't neglect my "inner child". For some, this could mean rekindling old friendships with your college roomies or your high school BFF's, for me its getting screamed at by a long-haired, beer guzzling, loogie spitting, rock-star. My advice is to find what works for you, and don't let it go. Even if you can only do it once or twice a year, Do it, its helps. All it takes is a few hours and some good songs to take you back to simpler times, and remind you that you not as big of an old fart as your kids may think! :)

Re: Staying Young

To me one of the big benefits of having kids is having an excuse to do "young" things. I love going to waterparks, amusement parks and all that sort of stuff. Right now I'm waiting for my little ones to get old enough to have fun doing some of that, but in the meantime, it's definitely good to get out and have some fun with my husband when we can manage it!

Great advice.

Re: Staying Young

Hi,

Thanks for you article . .  I love the idea of staying young and often say that you are only as young as you feel ! ! ! There is nothing better than jumping on a swing or a slide and having some fun, plus my kids love it when mum plays too.

Cheers Kellz
