This week I was on my way to work
I knew it was going to be a couple of trips down to the ward
So asked the boys if they would mind helping me
the response...................
"Yes of course, what will you pay us??????"
I was not happy !!!!!!!!
I can be very stubborn if the situation calls for it, this time I felt justified because I strongly believe there should be no reward for kindness, so this led to me telling them what I thought of their attitude and going to work on my own, leaving them in the very capable hands of my Mum.......Poor Mum !!!!
When I got back from work, I was still not happy, in fact some could say I was sulking !!!!!!
On the way home later, I formulated this master plan in my mind, I would show them all a mother does for their children out of kindness and show them we do it for no reward except because we love our children and want to do nice things for them.
I informed the boys that with immediate effect I WAS ON STRIKE !!!!!!
They took it all in their stride, I think the word "cool" actually was mentioned
So, I sat down and it wasn't long before the questions started
"Mum, whats for tea???"
My response "I don't know??? I'm on strike remember, its every man for their self tea tonight!!!!!"
Were they disappointed????????
Not at all....... in fact they were positively ecstatic, one of them straight away made himself beans on toast
whilst the other made himself scrambled egg
great culinary skills my sons !!!!!!
Later in the evening, one of the boys sat down and put their elbow in their plate of "bean remnants" after much giggling, I asked why they thought it funny, and why they thought it was still there..............of course it was because I hadn't cleaned up the tea things !!!!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
The novelty eventually wore off and they finally noticed that they had a rather uncommunicative Mum in the house, so the loving started............ I had hugs, I had "I love you Mum" my only response was a "Thankyou"
In the end as they were going to bed, I had an apology!!!!!!
I asked them if they now understood why I had been upset all day.
the response "Yes Mum and we have learnt our lesson!!"
Feeling quite satisfied at this point I asked them what had they learnt!!!
I was then told "If we aren't nice to you, then you won't be nice to us !!!!!!!!"
NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That wasn't the lesson I wanted them to learn !!!!!!!!!!!!!
So we sat down and I patiently explained, how kindness does reward you, it can be the lovely feeling you get when a small act of kindness you do for someone brings such pleasure to them, you can't help but feel happy inside.
Or its the great feeling you get when later on someone acts equally kind in return to you
Lesson Learned: ONLY GIVE PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATIONS WHEN YOU ARE CLEAR WHAT YOU ARE TEACHING YOUR CHILD !!!!
