Re: on your back??

Question:

Hey all

I was just wondering if you do sleep on your back while pregnant if it does reduce blood flow to the baby.. I have never been a back sleeper and since

i have been pregnant, i have found myself wakng up in the night on my back and i try to stay on myside but nothing seems to work... even sticking a pillow between my legs and sleepingtrying to keep it there dosnt work.. any hints on what i can do??

Thanks

My Advice:

Hi,

Sleeping on your flat on your back while pregnant is not reccomended due to the 2 main veins going down your back to your uterus feeding your baby. If you lay flat it is known to reduce the blood flow.

But there is a way around it. lay with a ordinary pillow length wise that goes from your shoulders down to your lower back, under one side of your back so you are laying on a slant slightly. This makes sure that there is one vein that is open and is providing enough blood flow to your baby.

Also it is highly beneficial that you lay with a fat pillow or 2 pillows together one on top of the other under your knees, this takes the pressure off your lower back.

I hope this helps you. :-D

Although, not to worry, the doctor says that if you can't sleep any other way or if you roll over in your sleep, and blood flow is reduced, you will feel enough pain and/or discomfort that you will wake up or roll over.

Hi Jen,

This ia GREAT advice . . .  I used to lay with lots of pillows with all my pregnancies, not only did it help with sleeping but it also help my back aches too . .

Cheers Kellz

This is great advice!! Ill have to remember this if i ever decide to have #2... I was always paranoid of lying on my back while preggy but i just propped up with pillows, but thats a great idea sleeping on top of the pillow.

Thanks for sharing!!
