25 FAQ about Pregnancy

Ravenheart by Ravenheart Talking(August 24th) (rank 166th)

When I was pregnant I wanted to know everything about my pregnancy and i loved learning about every aspect of being pregnant. Here are what I think are the top 25 questions asked about pregnancy and they are in NO particular order.

1. Am I pregnant?

The easiest way to find this out is to take a home pregnancy test, or see your doctor for a blood test or ultrasound.

2. What helps with morning sickness?

I found the best way to get rid of morning sickness was to eat all day long, not massive amounts of food but small frequent meals, or snack on toast or bananas during the day. If this doesn't work for you your doctor could recommend Maxalon, this helps with nausea. Also vitamin B6 is good for helping ease morning sickness.

3. What to eat to keep my baby healthy and happy?

Basically try to eat a well balanced diet and this high in folic acid are recommended to keep baby healthy. Foods like broccoli, oranges, nuts, chicken and liver (yuk) So have lots of fresh veggies, fruit and good quality whole meal bread and lean meats.

4. Whats foods can't I eat?

Firstly any food that looks suss, smells bad or could be out of date STAY AWAY from, You should avoid soft cheeses, raw seafood, lunch meat, premade salads, unpasteurized milk or dairy products and soft serve ice cream.. altho I did eat maccas ice cream.. i had cravings lol.

5. What else should I avoid?

Drinking alcohol, smoking and taking drug are all BIG NO NO'S, also X-rays, some medications and certain aromatherapy oils.

6. Can I still exercise?

Before doing any exercise check first with your doctor or midwife, most light exercise like yoga, walking, light aerobics are ok to do.

7. Can I still have s ex?

S ex is ok while pregnant unless told otherwise by your doctor or midwife. S ex is a good form of exercise too

8. When should I have my first antenatal appointment?

At least by 10 weeks, so that all the correct test can be done.

9.What tests will I have done during my pregnancy?

check out this great advice http://www.minti.com/parenting-advice/8574/Tests-during-pregnancy/

10. When will I find out the gender of my baby

As long as your baby is in the right position they should be able to tell you the gender of your baby at your 18 - 21 week ultrasound.

11. When will I feel the baby move?

This is different for every women, I felt mine move all at about 16 weeks and at first it feels like bubbles or gas but towards the end of your pregnancy it can feel like your baby is playing football inside you.

12. When to go to the E.R. or Doctor?

If you experience vaginal bleeding, water breaks, blurred vision, if u fall or get injured or baby hasn't moved in the last 12 hours.. If your worried for any reason, see your doctor.

13. How far along in my pregnancy can I fly?

Most ppl recommend not flying in your third trimester. If you need to fly in your third trimester seek medical advice first.

14. Why am I hairy?

Its so normal to end up with small black hairs on your belly, Its all to do with your hormones. When I was pregnant with my some I got really hairy.. i put it down to his testosterone lol.

15. Can I dye my hair whilst being pregnant?

I say yes you can but be in a well ventilated room, and try to use the more natural hair dyes.

16. I can't sleep, how can i get some sleep?

There are a few things your could try, warm baths, massage, having no coffee or coke, body pillows or maybe your stressing about something thats keeping you up, heres some advice I wrote on insomnia and pregnancy.

17. Is it normal for my boobs to be leaking?

Yes, your breast will start to produce colostrum, this is the first milk your baby will need, and its very normal.

18. Arggh, I have really bad heartburn, whats safe to use during pregnancy?

I had really bad heart burn and i tried all sorts of things, the only 2 things that worked for me was Quickeze tablets and drinking milk.

19. What does the "plug" look like?

It varys a bit but mostly its a clear/ creamy plug (like a big bogger) with strands on blood in it. This varys from women to women tho.

20. What are the signs of labour?

Well there are many signs of labour, back pain, lots of peeing and pooing, pressure on your vagina, contractions, water breaking or leaking, losing the "plug". If you are concerned at any time contact your doctor or midwife.

21. What can bring on labour?

Walking, walking up stairs, s ex, drinking raspberry leaf tea, drinking Castor oil, did i mention s ex. But its important to discuss all these with your doc or midwife, its not safe to do there before 39 weeks... and i don't recommend Castor oil.

 22. What should I pack for the hospital?

For yourself - Changes of clothes, plenty of underwear, maternity bras, 3 - 4 packets of maternity pads, breast pads, toiletries, snacks and anything else you want to take.

23. What should I take to the hospital for baby?

Nappies, wipes, baby bath/lotions, grow suits, singlets, booties and mittens, a dummy if you want, beanies / bonnets, baby blankets and anything else you may want to take for your lil bubba.

24. What can I do to prevent stretch marks?

Use Vitamin E based moisturizers on your belly while pregnant.

25. Whats the best way to lose weight after pregnancy?

The no 1 way to get all your body back in to shape is to breastfeed. You can also drink lots of water and take baby for walks.

Hope this has helped and if you wanna add for feel free.

xoxo
