Does your child have nits?

FremantleDocker by FremantleDocker Talking Back(August 2008) (rank 50th)

My children have all gone through the nit process, weather it was in Kindergarten, or school. My youngest daughter always seemed to get them in Kindergarten, and now a couple of times in school.

I was talking to another parent who's boy is in my daughter's class and

has a girl in kindergarten still, and says she has the nit problem every week, as the Kindergarten is full of nits etc, and always coming home every week with them.

She then told me to use tea tree oil. That is what got rid of her daughter's nits, and hasn't had them for over a month by using the process which I'm about to share with you all.

What this other parent did, was firstly, buy a small squirt or spray bottle, small bottle of tea tree oil, and put 1 cm of tea tree oil in the bottom of the spray bottle, and filled up the spray bottle with warm water, and would spray her daughter's hair before she went to school and about an hour or 2 before she went to bed and did this for about a week, and still does the same process.

After about 5 days, the nits and eggs were all gone. The nits and eggs don't like the smell or taste or anything to do with tea tree oil.

I've done this with my daughter, and it's kept them away. You can keep putting the solution in their hair every day, or every few days, as it's entirely up to you when you do this, but this is a cheap and easy way on how to get rid of the nits and eggs for ever. This process has seemed to work for alot of people i know now, as other parent's have tried this also, and also worked for them also.

Good luck, and it's worth a try.

i have tried teatree and water spray killed adults but eggs impossible to shift. Teatree and conditioner ok too. After consistant nit i shaved both girls off got rid of nits plus hair came back thicker and healthier, seemed drastic but ended trouble with nits.

Re: Does your child have nits?

Hi there. Yes, i have found the eggs are impossible to shift also. I'm not cutting off my girls hair, but i might cut or shave of at least 2 to 3 cm off from the top of her ear to ear

The comb is brilliant, i agree. I put the tea tree oil in and use the comb afterwards. Glad you think the same way.

Re: Does your child have nits?

We have this in our bathroom as the girls went through a stage of getting them every week. At least this cost less than buying nit solution all the time. I also spray hairspray in there hair from time to time as they can't get through when jumping. Sophie even got them when she was 18 months old, I just cried.

Re: Does your child have nits?

I agree, using the tea tree oil method is alot cheaper than the chemical solution from the chemist, and it gets rid of them for ever in the end.

I've just recently heard about the hairspray part, and apparently it does work just as good. Hoping that your children don't have the rechit nits anymore.

Re: Does your child have nits?

Fantastic advice. I have heard people use tea tree oil and water to keep nits away but i didn't know it was another way of treating the nits. I would hate to use chemicals in my kids hair.

Re: Does your child have nits?

Thankyou Juzzy. Yeah, tea tree oil can be used in alot of different ways i've heard, and this is only a few ways. I don't like to use chemicals either if i don't  have to.

Re: Does your child have nits?

Sounds good, but wouldn't tea tree sting like hell if it got in their eyes?  I guess I'd still rather try that then frequent doses of chemicals...

Re: Does your child have nits?

Thanks kseers. I suppose tea tree would sting your eyes. I don't know to be quite honest. I always get my daughter to put a face washer over her eyes before i start to spray.

Good on you for going to try tea tree oil. THat''s why i use it now as i don't like chemicals etc near my children.

Re: Does your child have nits?

It does sting your eyes as my eldest daughter got nits again the last weeks of school, and she got some in her eyes and said it stung like no body's business
