Safe movies/ TV for your kids

Anonymous Author (September 6th)

I always find it hard to let my kids watch just anything.  And truthfully they rarely watch TV at all.  I know there are a lot of parents who agree with me.  But sometimes you just need a little break, or some sort of leverage to

put the ball back in your court.  So I have been scouring the internet for good kids TV show and movies.  Sometimes I find the shows on cable a bit too sassy for my taste so I steer clear of their websites too, just so my kids won't become so familiar with them.  And I found a couple of things here and there but not a whole site with them all grouped together.  But then I found this amazing site called www.thesafescreen.com.  I just love knowing that I can go there and I don't have to worry about my kids watching movies or TV shows with junk in them that I don't approve of.  And on top of all of that you can sit and watch them all for free, right there on your computer. You gotta love technology!  Check it out next time you need a break.

Re: Safe movies/ TV for your kids

Wow, thanks for sharing this.  We are fortunate here in the UK to have CBeebies, a BBC channel for toddlers and young children.  I was able to use this (still do on occasion) to be fair I am less keen on CBBC but CBeebies is getting a little too young for E now so we have been planning in certain times of the day where she gets to watch telly instead of just watching it when we fancy some time out.  This way there are specific programs she is watching and we are not watching the 'baby' ones.

This site looks like it will help a whole heap though - might even mean we can stop planning time to watch telly!!  Thank you for sharing.

Peace

I'm going to be one of those mums too!  I let my daughter watch half an hour now and then to give me a break, but only good quality childrens' TV - thank goodness for those old favourites like Play School and Sesame Street!

Another suggestion - a friend used to video childrens tv shows that she approved of and save them "for a rainy day".

Hi there,

Thanks for the link . .  I am one of those over protective mums that is very strict on what my children watch on TV etc . . My nine yr old often say 'But mum, so and so is allowed to watch it" . . My response each time is "I am not so and so's mum, I am yours" . . .

Cheers Kellz

This looks quite good for people with slightly older kids than me, however I am thinking I might check out that Dunstan Checks In with my wee man, as I have wanted to watch it for a while ; )  A good find indeed.
