teaching your child to ride a bike

COLE2008 by COLE2008 Speaking(September 2008) (rank 376th)

hey everyone

you wouldnt think it but at a very young age i couldn't ride a two wheeled bicycle yntil i was 6 as i didnt have the confidents of getting over the fear of my father letting the back of the bike go and me doing it by

myself . Trust me the early you strat boosting your childs confidents and independence  on a small bike and work your way up . Dont try pushing them as they will do it in their own time as with me it took a good 2 years to beable to ride myself but i didnt ever get on a bike until i was 4 so i never new what to do and i remember when i first tried i fell off heeps and got frusterated with myself dad said you want to ride the bike your gotta get back up on it as i did but kept falling down but it was worth it as i worked at it and got afew bruisers nothing mager and ended up being able to ride a bike i thought some parents should know even at the age of  1 or 2 get a small plastic bike and help boost there confidents by pushing them slowly around. I hope this helps other parents out there.

Thanks for sharing.  It is good to remember that it is about keeping the fun in the activity and building up confidence by degrees instead of haivng the finished article immediately.  There is great achievement in working towards things, especially riding a bike ... we are loving it.

Peace

Re: teaching your child to ride a bike

A childs confidence is built by so many differing things in life.

One of the best things I have seen of recent years is those beaut little bikes with a handle on the back for the parent/guardian to control.

We used to live in an industrial area when my son was just 3 and with no trainer wheels he was off. Cruising on the cement like a minture Evil kanevil. Being the good parent, I thought to take him to the school where there was some nice soft grass to cushion his fall should he have one. 5 minutes there and he broke his arm on the grass...go figure....

He is nearly 18 and still loves his bike but not as much as his car...I am closing my eyes for this one...boys and thier toys!
