When my eldest daughter was about 2 and a half she used to have very bad dreams that turned into long sleepless nights for the whole family. I tried everything, buying a new bed, painted her room a colour she had choosen, bought night lights galore, to giving her a
warm malted milk at night and herbal tonics like Calm. NOTHING seemed to help her, it was every night, 3 times a night sometimes 5 or 6 times! I looked into essential oils and had a read up on lavender oil which most people know it for its calming affects. I then took a trip to my health food shop and asked for some advice. I told her of my lack of sleep problems and she suggested to buy some frankincense oil along with lavender oil. This was quite expensive to buy but i really needed to give it a go. So instead of burning them in an oil burner , which i thought was too dangerous for a little one, i put a few drops of each oil into a plastic spray bottle and mixed it with a cup of warm water and sprayed it around her room lightly. On her pillow, her doona, her carpet and let it dry which didnt take long. It smelled so nice!!!!!!!! On the plastic bottle i made a little sticker up with magic sweet dreams spray on it and made some pretty patterns on it. I told Temeka that it was a special spray that would take all her bad dreams away and give her good happy ones and it was magic. She was so excited with the thought of it all. I made a really big deal about it and had her help me make it telling her it was like a potion. I was really hoping this was going to work but didnt have my hopes up too high as so many other things had let me down.
The next morning i woke and she was still asleep at 6am!!!!!!!!!! She didnt wake!!! Was this just a fluke or was it my made up magic spray??? I was pretty excited but didnt let myself get too excited. That next night we did the same thing, Temeka helped spray it around and went to bed shortly after with not even a whinge! The next morning i woke again with no broken sleep! We went on doing this every night and not once did we have a problem, she started sleeping longer, ate better, was laughing more and smiling more. She was a different child as she was getting her sleep she needed. This was one of the best things i had ever done. I have had a few ppl try this with their children and made up their own name for their sprays and have found it to be great. Im sure it probably wont work with all kiddies but its worth a try!
Kell, known as ellamia has been someone i suggested it to for her little one who was waking a few times a night, 1am and 4 am and had trouble getting her back to bed and asleep. She has been spraying her room for the past week and now she is waking only once at 5am and going back to bed alot easier and happier!!! So you can ask Kell what she thinks of this great idea...lol...
Here are some useful links to show you what each oil can be used for. You will find that Frankincense oil has a use for nightmares, anxiety ect...... good reading from both links...Let me know how you go if you try it. I hope this advice helps someone out there with a trouble sleeper like i had and Kell!!
Thanks for reading ......naomi xx
