Hello everyone,
Everyday I watch my daughter navigate the web for entertainment and
school projects. I know it’s important for her to be familiar with
today’s technologies, but it’s hard for me to witness some of the
effects. I’m not sure what bothers me more
– the zombie-like
fixation with the computer screen or the diminishing attention span.
You see, I am an advocate of storytelling ---both reading and passing
down of verbal information. That’s probably why I am so passionate
about my company’s product called VoiceQuilt which “quilts” audio
memories into one unified message. Many of the stories shared with me when I was young and as an adult still sit with me and inspire me everyday.
Maybe it is just me but, for those interested in the art of
storytelling, I thought I would put together a quick list of three
articles I found on the subject.
1 – Top 10 Tips on StoryTelling and Reading for Parents and Children.
Vera Waters is known internationally as an inspirational speaker and
author. Her favorite pastime is reading and writing stories for her
grandchildren.

2 – Telling The Story. The delivery of the story is just as important
as the stories you tell. Here are a few tips to help parents become better storytellers:

3 – Storytelling benefits adults too. Here is a quick article about that:

I’m also a big fan of what two local entities are doing here in
Atlanta to highlight the importance of storytelling:
The Emory Center for Myth and Ritual in American Life. One of my
favorite articles is here:

And, OF COURSE, the
Wren's Nest. Check out their party celebrating the
"JK Rowling of the 1860s..."
