Vacation Care - to send them or not to send them....

kyley79 by kyley79 Walking(October 2008) (rank 500+)

Hi All.

since it is school holidays here in australia i wanted to share my experience and feelings about vacation care programs.

I have a 7 year old son, and usually put him in a holiday program.

The one he is attending now, costs me $5

a day and includes all excursions (which was canoeing, activities at olympic park, putt putt golf and a horse back gymnastic show), a orb ball and jumping castle and other fun things at the centre, and i provide his lunch etc. i usually send him 3 days a week.

I do this as personally i know that they are taking him places that i cant, he is occupied, he has friends his own age to play with and he enjoys it. Personally i would feel guilty to have him at home bored all holidays as circumstances dont allow me to continually take him out to have fun every  day.

I would recommend that all parents allow this oppurtunity to their kids, it also provides stay at home mums with abit of free time. My suggestion would be to check your local newspaper or ring your local council (or look on their website) or even ask your childs school (receptionist/office).

Let your child try it, dont knock it until you do. They may love it. Socialising is good for them, and rest assured your child will  tell you how they felt about attending the program.

My son enjoys it (and personally  so do i!!!).

Hi there,

I am a huge supporter of Vacation Care as like you I agree with the fact that our children are kept occupied, happy and full of things that we probably can't afford to do . . Saddly my daughter has missed out attending vacation care this year as there have been only limited spaces where I live . .  Finger crossed that she will get in this summer . .

Cheers Kellz

I am all for holiday programs. I grew up attending a youth holiday program when i was in high school and i think it was some of the most enjoyable memories of growing up. We even had camps interstate that only cost a small amount as we had funding for low income families.
