I have turned into my Mother!

SavvyMum by SavvyMum Crawling(October 9th) (rank 500+)

Can you remember being a teenager and swearing till you where blue ton the face  that you were not going to be like your mum or your parents?

I sure can !I was going to be cool ,I was going to be my children's best friend

they weren't going to have any rules or any restriction placed on their objectives to course chaos, and I was definitely NEVER going to drive them to school in a my PJ's.

Mum; well all she had to say for herself  was 'We will see,you won't understand until you are a parent !'

Yeh well I was sure that would never happen and she was either trying to scare me or she had completely lost it!

Fast forward and her I am with 4 children and I now understand I get it.Like being hit over the head with a brick I  understand.

The women in the bathroom holding the cake of soap saying 'Do you know what happens to little kids that tell Lies?"

Yeh guess what ?It is not my Mum ITS ME!

I can hear it  but I can't stop it!

But I don't think I am actually scared now of turning into my Mum but not being able to stack up to the incredible job she has done!

The shoe is on the other foot now.Nana and Pop are enjoying all the glory of being  grandparents letting the kids get away with things I would never have even dreamed of as a child in case that grounding got extend.

While my husband and myself we are continuing asking ourselves "are we doing the right thing?",be it school, work ,discipline their health you name it it is on that list.

The one thing I know for certain is I am glade that I have turned out just like my Mum and that when the going gets tough I can hear her voice in my head and heart guiding me.

I love you Mum and Yes I understand now!

Especially the part about how beautiful I was when I was asleep. You only had me but as you said Karma had the last say and now I have it X 4

Parents are precious in any form or figure they come in.Hold them close and treasure their advice you might not want it or understand it at the time but you will never know when you will need it!!

Parenting is an amazing adventure and sometimes the old tools work  better than  the  new gadgets!

Re: I have turned into my Mother!

This was a pleasure to read and brought a smile to my face as I am a grandmother and can sit back and say :We will see", no truer words are spoken.

What a lovely way to say thankyou to your mum.

Thanks!

Re: I have turned into my Mother!

How scary! JK.

I am similar to my Mum in some ways but my parenting is mostly different. I have respect for her as she did it on her own. And I think she was more patient than I am (maybe I am more strict). She is great though she listens to why I parent the way I do. (Not judgements full of fear and ignorance)My MIL is the same. Though I understand their concerned its great when they ask questions. Education is power.

Re: I have turned into my Mother!

This is a beautiful tribute and so true.  Although there are some things I have changed, there are many things that I would never change, and I am proud of the job my parents did on me and my brothers.  We were very privileged, and though it was not easy (when is it ever?) I knew I was fortunate when I was growing up, but now that I am 'worldly wise' i know exactly how fortunate, and every day I thank God for the honour of my parents and the love and care they devoted to us.

Peace
EF.x

Re: I have turned into my Mother!

When i was a child and asked Mum why I couldn't do something the answer I would get was

"Because I said so"

I hated that to me is wasn't an answer just a lame way of saying No without a real reason.

Guess who says it now........

Re: I have turned into my Mother!

I actually never said I don't want to be like my parents.. :) I wanted to be, and am glad that I am... I hear myself say things sometimes and give a little giggle knowing exactly where I picked it up from.   Then just out of the blue sometimes I hear my husband sound just like my dad, whom he has only met three times totally about two months in 8 years. (That is the freaky thing)...

My father once said to me, he had rang his dad on a few occasions to say sorry and now he understands what it was like for him to be a parent... When he told me this I laughed...  But when one day I rang him to to say those exact words, it was he that was laughing...

I guess sometimes we just can't help it...
