Trust YOUR own instincts as a parent

MellyG by MellyG Standing(October 2008) (rank 500+)

This advice covers a lot of areas with parenting.

As mothers we are always seeking advice from others when it comes to everything and anything to do with our children. Advice from others is a fantasitc resource to parenting as there are no instruction manuals that come with our

children (I know I have looked everywhere LOL). Quite often there may be times when others TELL us what we should be doing with our children or how we should be treating them but in the end the old saying "A mother always knows best" (but I would include hands on fathers into this phrase also) is absolutely spot on. Now I dont mean to not take any advice in at all as this is how we gain our knowledge to help us along the way but once you have all of this advice from others then YOU will know which path to take from there. I have probably not explained this all that well so I will include and examle of what I am trying to say - If you feel that there is something no right with your child but a doctor for example tells you that you are wrong; but you still feel uneasy then just trust your instincts and keep going to see different doctors until you are comfortable with the results and you are comfortable that your child is 100% OK..

So I just wanted to let all first time mothers especially to know that their instincts are always a great way to go !!! Oh and enjoy your role as a parent ~ its probably the most important role you will ever have :)

Re: Trust YOUR own instincts as a parent

Totally agree.

Too often ppl go to drs or other so called experts who know not your family and do not care as much as the parents. (How can they?)

Good advice.

Instinct is a true gift

I love reading advice around minti and then forming my own opinion - then when I live through an experience I am better equipped to deal with it, and I can revise my opinion to suit the situation and make the most of it, get the best out of it or help others more within it.

Peace
EF.x

Thanks Kerri,  it sounds so much better the way that you have put it. I never used to have a problem with words but lately I have trouble putting what is in my head onto paper, I am going to go with the lack of sleep thing as an excuse LOL.. :)

Re: Trust YOUR own instincts as a parent

Always go with your gut instinct is the best way, and with the doctors, i totally agree, if you still feel uneasy, then get a second opinion.

You're right, you will get alot of advice etc from other parents and you will remember what you want to remember which you think is the good advice.

Well done on this article.

Kerri
