For sure...
Every one likes to be listened too.....  And although I have no idea what my son is actually saying it looks like it is important.. I even talk back to him. WHat I love is listening to him when he chats with his father... It really looks like the two of them are having a full on deap and meaningfull....

Definatley. You may think your listening but are you 'really' listening .  Usually at a time when making dinner trying to getting ready in the morning, two of my children want something done, I'm trying to get something else finished and one child is telling me a story.  I find myself saying 'uh huh'  yep.  Then I realise what I have done and whatever they have said I have totally missed.  I am sure this isn't good for their self esteem and now I ask them to wait 5 minutes so I can listen to them properly.  They understand and seem happier at the end of their story that I have given them my full attention.

i totally agree. when i was growing up my mum was always doing that, and if we would ask her to do something crazy, like skateboard off the roof, she would go ahuh. then come out screaming like a banshee when she heard us stack it :) never seemed to remember the conversation lol. Unfortunately, I find myself doing this to my husband at night when he calls me for the tird or fourth time :S not good!
