toilet training

Re: toilet training
Asked by vicky68

Question:

Hi i have a very stubborn 3 year old boy, who refuses to go to the toilet or potty, i have tried putting undies on him, but he just wets them, and says oh to

late....i have also tried bribing him with chocalate to go to the toilet, but it doesent seem to work, he will sit on it , and just muck around and not do anything,i would appreciate any ideas on how other parents have manged to get their sons to go to the toilet....

My Advice:

my son refused to go to the toilet he was afraid of it so out of frustration i made him sit there and wait till he went  when he did we did something together that he really loved doing like going out to lunch or building something that he wanted or getting a new toy we did this until he caught on that the toilet was a good thing. i think that boys are ussually more afraid of the toilet than girls because they see their dad stand up and they dont know how to do that or the toilet is too big for them to get any confidence.hope this helps

Re: toilet training

I don't believe it is fair to make your child sit there if he is afraid of the toilet... We provided a variety of small toilet seats, potties, and a little step system and a lot of encouragement.  It has been a very slow process, however there has been no force involved and overall, it has been a pleasant experience for our son.  He now pays himself a good coin for his money box whenever he does a poo in the loo.  If he has an accident with that, and Daddy has to clean it, he has to pay Daddy back, he is very miserly, so it has improved his accuracy in this area.
