Whether you know your baby’s gender or are waiting on a surprise, this design is perfect for a baby shower footprint invitation!

Here’s what you need to do to create one of your own:

Visit a craft or scrapbook supply store to see if

you can find the footprint design on cardstock:

If you are unable to locate a sheet with baby footprints, head to the wrapping supply department of a baby store or discount center. The footprint design is a gift wrap classic, and you can easily adapt sections of wrapping paper into your baby shower invitations.

Cut your base piece of cardstock into a 5" x 7" rectangle:

If you are using wrapping paper for the footprint design, begin with a solid piece of cardstock in the 5" x 7" dimensions. Once you’ve cut it to the correct dimensions, place the card on the back of the wrapping paper and lightly trace it.

Next, cut the rectangle out of the wrapping paper and use a dry glue (such as a glue stick) to coat the entire surface of the cardstock.

Finally, very carefully layer the footprint design over the cardstock and smooth it out. Do not use liquid glue unless you do so sparingly; the excess moisture will cause the invitation to wrinkle and possibly tear. Allow it to dry before moving on to the next step.

Next, decide what text you’d like to add. Here’s a suggested message for a baby shower:

You’re invited to a baby shower!
Given in honor of (mother) and (father)
On (date) at (time)
(Address)
Hosted by (name of host)
RSVP (name and phone number)
Baby Registry: (store)

Once you’ve decided what wording you’d like to use, practice writing it in a space that measures approximately 4.5" wide and 3.5" tall. This is about how much space you’ll have to fit the wording on the finished invitation, and now is the time to make adjustments if you need them.

Next you’ll prepare the horizontal and vertical stripes for the baby shower invitation:

Choose two different pieces of scrapbooking cardstock that compliment one another and the footprint background. If you know the baby’s gender, go with pink or blue. If not, shades of purple, green, or yellow will look great!

Cut a strip that measures 2.5" wide and 5" tall for the vertical stripe:

For the horizontal piece, trim it to 7" wide and 1.5" tall. Place both pieces into position, but do not glue them down yet. Instead, hold them in place with paper clips.

If you happen to make a mistake when you write the wording on your baby shower footprint invitations, you can just slip these strips off and reuse them on the next card.

After you’ve printed your text, glue the accent strips of color down and allow the card to dry completely before continuing.

Now it’s time for the finishing touches!

If the baby has already arrived, you can put his or her photo on the invitation. If not, be creative! Borrow a friend’s baby and take a close up of little fingers or toes or use cropped photos from your older children as newborns. If the parents-to-be have a great ultrasound photo, this is the time to use it!

New 3D and 4D pictures are so amazing that they look like photographs, and they’d be a stunning addition to these baby shower footprint invitations! Position the photo on the invitation as shown.

If you know the baby’s name, add it to the nameplate. If not, a simple "Congratulations!" is a great way to fill the space. Trim the corners of a small rectangular piece of cardstock to add visual interest, then glue it in place.

Next, draw the heart on with a marker or use a scrapbooking accent. You can find these with craft supplies in most stores.

Finally, add a small bow at the top. Use a small dot of hot glue to keep it in place.

All that’s left to do is slip these invites into an envelope for delivery. More than just a great way to get guests to the party, each one of these homemade baby shower invitations is sure to become a treasured keepsake for friends and loved ones!
