weight gain

just want to know what people think, not sure how to take this, should i be rapt that i dont have to loose any or worried that i'm not putting enough in reserve????

i'm 31 weeks preg, and have only put on 4.5 - 5kg, bub is fighting fit (he lets me know this at every chance he gets, lol) i'm healthy and eat well and take my vitamins, should i be worried or just accept that this is ok since i'm chasing an 16 month old as well, and try to do a couple of hours walking a week? my midwife doesn't believe in scales (yes we love this lady!!!)  and is happy with how everything is progressing.

just curious, as to what others may advise and think / suggest

thanks heaps!

Re: weight gain

I think its fantastic that you arent being weighed every midwife visit. I was, and there was alot of emphasis put on the fact that I wasnt gaining a huge amount of wieght.I gained a total of 7.5 kilos through my entire pregnancy (making me a total of 59kilos) and gave birth to my 2.5 kilo daughter. She was and is perfectly fine and healthy, and i am glad I chose to listen to my mum, instead of worrying because my midwife didnt think i was big enough. If you think you and bubs are fine, go with your gut. i ate like a horse and was constantly told i wasnt eating enough. Sometimes the pros are wrong

Re: weight gain

thanks heaps, you all make me feel better!

i wouldnt say that i am over weight, sure i dont weigh what i did through high school but then again i'm not doing nearly as much physical work as i was then (thank goodness!) i'm still in my pre baby jeans (almost need a belt to keep them up now) and tee shirts, they just dont cover the belly any more,  am guessing bub is working on reducing all my jiggly /wobbly bits, lol, acording ot my hubby i'm gorgously pregnant so guess i'm not looking to bad,

thanks again!

Re: weight gain

I am 27 weeks now, and haven't weighed myself since the first antenatal appointment.  I've never been weighed during my pregnancies.  I wouldn't be worried about it at all.

The amount of weight the experts say you put on is an average.  It isn't a target.  Some put on more, some less, but if your baby is thriving, then you've done well.

Might go weigh myself now and see what I've put on.

Re: weight gain

Hi, im 32.5 weeks preegers and have put on aboout the same amount, and its fine, are you overweight at all?? my midwife says cause im overweight its better i havent put on much,  and i was aiming for only a 6 kilo weight gain throughtout my pregnancy. However, being only 1 kilo away from the 6 kilo target, i dare say im not going to suceed. Dont worry, consider yourself lucky! only worry of your midwife does or if you start feeling quite off xx

Re: weight gain

I wouldn't worry unless your midwife does- the important thing is that bubs is getting bigger. I am 33 weeks pregnant with a 15 month little one to chase after, and have only just stopped work. Due to all this I've actually lost weight my last couple of weigh-ins but bubs is getting bigger every second (it seems). My midwife basically looked at me and said "Look, your colour is very good, baby is growing, you're clearly very it and healthy and you haven't had a dramatic drop in iron, so I'm happy"

The human body is an amazing machine. Don't get hung up on numbers and just keep looking after yourself. You sound like you're doing a brilliant job so far
