Change of routine

My 19 month old boy just started daycare 1 day a week and has been twice now. The thing is he doesnt want to go to sleep when its rest time and bed time anymore. He just whinges and screams I have been letting him do this till he falls asleep but the other day it went on for 40 minutes before he finally went to sleep. Do you think this is due to a new routine and new happenings with daycare? We are also expecting another baby in three months and wondered if he would be picking up on that? Also how do I manage putting him to sleep? Do I let him cry it out or does anyone have any other ideas????

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: Change of routine

Could I just suggest that maybe you speak to the centre and ask what routine they have with your bub and see if you could follow something similar, he may be a little confused with the changes happening in his life at the moment and everything is all so exciting, if he is behaving well prior to naps it may possibly be time to cut down the naps to one a day even.

I love arnas suggestion of using a teddy or doll and getting him to practice looking after a baby. which of course will make him feel more included in whats happening. Best of luck and I hope  a new routine is effective for everyone involved. I remember when my boy started daycare we had some major changes happen with his routine. xxx.

Re: Change of routine

My bubs is 19mths and is going through the same thing.  We haven't had any major changes, I have just put it down to the discovery & excitement of new things, not wanting to miss out and her getting molars.  Sorry, probably no help but could just be an age thing? Good luck with the new bubs!

Re: Change of routine

Those are some big changes going on in your little mans life.  Wow, daycare and a new baby on the way.  No wonder he is having trouble going to sleep, he is over tired.  Yes, daycare is so exciting and fun, he is running around and spending more energy than he probably normally would.  His little body is trying to catch up, which means it is going to take some time.

Are you keeping him included in this pregnancy?  Let him play with bubs, if you can stand being tickled that is! LOL  Teach him how to care for a baby with a teddy bear or even a doll, then, he will feel all grown up and like he is helping you.

Time and consistancy will be the key to getting him settled again.
