holidays with children

Hi everyone.

I am a single mum of 3- (4 year old twins and a 12 month old).  I have been thinking lately that a holiday would be nice.  I would like to travel interstate, perhaps with my sister.  What I would like to know is:

1- should I drive (meaning I could pack all the kids stuff in the car, and have their car seats, but it would take longer)

2- should I fly and hire a car (then I would have to take extra stuff on the flight, book car seats with the hire car)

3- should I fly and use public transport (might include a lot of walking, the 4 year olds are too big for a pram and it would include carrying a lot of stuff on outings).

Either way, it will take a lot of planning.....and any advice would be appreciated.  We have only been on relatively short car trips before (except driving to melbourne from adelaide to get the ferry to Tassie when the twins were 5 months old and I was still with my husband).  I would like to let the kids experience flying though.

Re: holidays with children

Hi,

I personally would go with no 1,  especially if you don't really have too much of a time limit.  You could stop look at things, rest, go to playgrounds when kids get restless etc.  You'd be able to pack everything you need.  I think it would be a great experince for your kids.  I would love to do something like that.  You could do a photo album after "our roadtrip"

Just plan for any long strethes of driving with coloring books, etc.  If you havn't got one already, maybe invest in the postable dvd player, but get one you can plug into your cigarette lighter and also a normal socket, so when you stop kids can watch some movies at night or during quiet time.

Anyway sounds great, have fun which ever way you decide to go.

Re: holidays with children

personally I would drive. you can stop at all those place you wouldnt normally go to. you have all your own stuff (no kiddies chucking a spaz cause it aint their seat or u freaking cause of spillz or spew. Also you can change plans better in a car. I would go plane when the kids are older.

Re: holidays with children

If it was me, I would choose No. 1.

It might take longer but  if you see a place you like you can stopped, do the trip at your own pace and  have a break when you want to.

Take all those little things you need for 3 little ones. something will crop up that you need and you will have it with instead of having to buy it.

What better way to see  our country.

Hey Josie, coming my way??????????? hehe!
