Re: Doing something for myself
I have four kids, and one due next month. My husband is barely ever home from work before 6.30, and is usually later than that. When I'm not pregnant, I train three or more times per week for triathlons and open water swims. I usually get dinner almost ready, and when hubby walks in the door I bolt out and do a 10-20 km ride or a 1.2km swim, or a run. By the time I get back, dinner is fully ready and we all sit down to eat. Some strenuous exercise does wonders for my mental health.
Once a month or so, I get to go out on my own somewhere - whether it's to visit my parents or catch up with friends, hubby takes the kid duty for the night. Often he will invite a mate over to hang out for the evening.
Both my husband and I are motorbike riders, and we have worked out a system whereby we both get some track time in on the bikes. Last year I completed an entire season of racing, because hubby was willing to look after the kids when there was a race on. I intend to repay the favour next year.
I also read as much as I can, I go to a playgroup once a week (I love catching up with the other mums and mostly the kids amuse themselves). I have started knitting again, but that's pretty sporadic.
One other thing I do is almost every day, I get the kids their lunch, put the youngest to sleep and then make myself a decent lunch and sit in front of Dr. Phil to eat it in peace. It gives me something to look forward to, and I try to do as much as I can before that, so I can sit down and enjoy my lunch.
That's about all I can think of. I'm sure I do more, but...
