Appetite Supresants

I am pregnant (still in 1st Trimester) and severely overweight. For the health of me and my baby I want to lose weight. Now, I am getting the hang of excerise but because I have other children this isn't easy. I also find myself always hungry and have been this way as long as I can remember (so not due to pregnancy). Now, I know I need to eat regularly and healthily for my baby and me, but I need help to cut down on how much I eat in one sitting. I've tried doing this without help and I find it really hard not to think about eating cause I'm still so hungry. Wondering if anyone knows of any natural appetite supresants that are safe to use while pregnant, just so I'm not so hungry all the time and can eat sensibly. Note - will check any advice with a doctor/pharmacist, but just want some ideas. Any other suggestions besides supressants are also welcome.

Thanks.

P.S. I have heard of drinking water when I feel hungry - if I do this I feel really queasy.

Re: Appetite Supresants

Hi - A  fantastic new product on the market that is 100% natural and proven in trials to help you lose fat at over 3 times faster that diet alone! It also has high levels of calcium which you would be needing right now as well. It is completetly safe for pregnancy and while breastfeeding, my friend who was very overweight actually lost a little while she was pregnant and the results since having her bub are amazing. She used this product in conjunction with a healthy diet and under her doctor's supervision. One of the things it does is to help you feel fuller and you can mix it into any liquid that you can stomach! If you want to know more just msg me, it is not available in shops you have to order it.

Re: Appetite Supresants

This might sound a bit weird but actually is a very nice drink. Mix one 2 tspoons of apple cidar vinegar and 1 tblspoon of honey in the bottom of a cup then fill with water. This is a very refreshing drink and  have found that it keeps my body sustained and suppresses appetite.

Also is a good relief for an upset stomach. I can understand about the water making you feel like that. I couldn't drink straight  water when I was pregnant either. It made me nauseous.

Also if your body is used to overeating then it will be hard to resist the urge to eat. But if you can be strong enough to do it for even a short period of time, your body naturally wont want to eat as much, so if you can resist the urge to eat for example, at one time of the day when you normally do, every day for  1 week, then the next week your body wont be telling you to eat that time of day. Hope that makes sense. And good luck.

Re: Appetite Supresants

You have been given some excellent advice here....with drinking water, it does works, you could try adding glucose in the water to mask to taste of the water.

A visit with your doctor would be advisable about any decision you make and they also send you to a nutrientist who could set you out the right food to eat to fill you up plus be healthy.

Good on you for trying to be healthy for yourself and your bub, I wish you well.

Re: Appetite Supresants

Just a thought - have you considered using one of those dissolving fibre drink things?  You could add it to water half an hour before meals, and hopefully it will make you feel fuller, and it has the benefit of adding fibre to your diet as well.  It might stop you feeling queasy after drinking water.  I have heard the water one as well, and that in dehydrated people, thirst can often be mistaken for hunger.

I have no idea if that will work, but I'm pretty sure that any off-the-shelf fibre supplement will be safe during pregnancy.

Re: Appetite Supresants

I tried fat blaster the other week and threw up lmao what a waste of almost 40 bucks! (is there anyway I can get my money back?) There are some nice ones though. Someone I used to work with lost about 8 kilos using the chocolate flavoured ones.

Wholemeal spaghetti bolognaise is also good for a treat - lil bit of mince and add lots of veggies to it

Re: Appetite Supresants

Hi this is the diet I'm currently on, it works (I'm losing between 1-3 kilos a week) and I'm always full.

For breakfast I have 2 slices of rye toast with no butter, 2 boiled eggs and I slice them up and put them on the toast with a bit of pepper for flavour.

For a snack I have 1 or 2 pieces of rye cruskits with vegemite

For lunch I have low fat wrap with cooked chicken breast sliced and a lot of salad.

For a snack I have 1 or 2 pieces of rye cruskit again with vegemite

For dinner I have a plate of vegetables and add a bit of fat free gravy to give it a bit of flavouring

Basically I am nearly completely cutting out sugar in my diet

I also walk at least 30 minutes a day.

This diet is one that my doctor gave to me and it has been working better than anything else I've tried. I did lost a bit of weight around April-May but that was mainly due to stress with my nanna dying.

But at the same time if you're craving something your baby might need it to grow. So talk it over with your doctor.

xo

Re: Appetite Supresants

drinking water does help but try this method one glass half hour before the meal, it is meant to fill you up and eat less.

we must be drinking 8 to 9 glasses but if it makes you queezy instead of drinking a whole glass. take siips. carry a water bottle prefarably the type with a "teat" that way you dont have to unscrew the lid constantly. "add a touch of flavour" but only a touch. like a sqeeze of a little ornage lime or lemon. just to break up that taste but remember a touch. Otherwise you will get a build up of acid. Or quickly and i mean quickly dip a tea bag in . Hot water is better here and then let it cool. But only dip in and out. just to take away that water queezyness.

oh and by the way tea has a very very small amount of caffeine. nowhere near as coffee. it is very very minimal.

try to eat a small banana or natural yogurt add your own nuts like walnuts, sultanas or mixed nuts. they fill you up and are very healthy. Eat lean meat and vegetables either stir fry or steam vegies.eat plenty of fruit.

try walking at your own pace at least half an hour a day. if you have a toddler put them in the pusher. if its cold outside rug up . go for walk mid morning or ealy afternoon when the  better part of the cold has lifted or before the late afternoon cold starts.

never go to the shops when you are hungry. if you do the temptaion is to buy junk food.

good luck

try to totally avoid take away foods, sweet biscuits in fact all biscuits. but if you must eat biscuits go for the ryvitas or saladas but the low fat ones. avoid lollies cakes

Re: Appetite Supresants

Any drink may help - it doesnt have to be water. Plenty of us get mixed up between thrist and hunger, so try to take the edge off your potential thirst any time you think you feel hungry.

The only other thing which comes to mind is protein. I remember a documentary into the Atkins diet years ago decided that protein makes you feel full quicker, which is why Atkins can help people lose weight. But it's much healthier to eat healthy protein rather than a fry-up! Another study I read found that people who ate 2 (I think) boiled eggs for breakfast every day ate significantly fewer calories that day, as the eggs filled them up for longer and reduced unhealthy snacking. If the eggs are hard boiled, then they should be safe for baby while you're pregnant, and you dont have to eat two if you dont want to!

Hope that helps a little.

Re: Appetite Supresants

Apologies, I don't have any answers for this question... YET.

I am also severely overweight and am just about to begin IVF. I have the same worry that you have now, and I am lucky enough that I am soon to meet with the nutritionist at my fertility centre to begin a pre-ivf weight loss program. Due to my weight I will also have to monitor my weight during pregnancy. I will see if I can get any information that might be helpful to you also :) Feel free to add me as buddy.
