Re: breastfeeding

Try having a warm shower and gently massaging your breasts.  This will gently let the milk drain away, while providing minimal stimulation to produce more.

The best way to stop breastfeeding is to do it gradually so that your supply gets the message that you are done, or the milk will keep coming in and you will get sore.

Good luck with it, and I hope your body is back to being yours again very soon.

Re: breastfeeding

I expressed just enough to feel comfortable again. I also used those cold jelly like packs you put on sport injuries. Cabbage leaves also do wonders! Yes I also think they work, cut out the big part of the stalk on the leaf because pressure on the breast gave me mastitis, believe me you dont want to go there! Good luck!

Hey

I know you get like a pump thingie that pumps out all of the milk in your breasts.

This are for those woman who don't want to breastfeed but still want their babies to drink their milk.

Re: breastfeeding

I used two bags of frozen peas on myself to ease the pain. That and heavy duty Motrin..LOL

I refused to express any because I didn't want the ducts to think they needed to make more. It took about 3 days and things calmed down for me.

Re: breastfeeding

You can express by hand in the shower to relieve some of the engorement and follow natural remedies that people may suggest. Other than that, you will have to deal with the discomfort for several days and then your breasts will gradually produce less and less milk.

Re: breastfeeding

Believe it or not, an old fashioned treatment really works...cabbage leaves.  If you have had mastitis they are helpful to take the heat out of the affected breast; but they are also helpful when weaning.  Use one or two cabbage leaves per breast, inserted into your bra.  Remove the hard base of the leaf to make it more comfortable and easy to shape/cup around the breast.  A midwife told me it takes about 4 days before you are really drying up.  One big thing to watch out for when weaning is mastitis, so this treatment is doubly helpful.  You can refridgerate the cabbage leaves for extra relief.  Hope this helps.

Re: breastfeeding

Expressing breast milk is a good thing to do. When I stopped breastfeeding my daughter, that was the only thing I did. I didn't take any medications. The milk dried up only for about a month or so.

Re: breastfeeding

Try expressing just enough to be comfortable, don't overdo it tho as you will produce more milk....There is medication to dry up milk but you need to be careful, i used these tablets with my first and was very lucky that i had a friend visiting at the time. Within half an hour of taking the first tablet i passed out for around 4 hours. I'm sure not everybody reacts the same but i would be cautious if you decide to use them.
