Drop a breastfeed?

My daughter is 13 months and not the best eater. She is currently breastfed and has 3 feeds a day with her other food.
The problem is she isnt the best eater and it was suggested that I drop the day feed to try to make her eat more, (keeping the first and last feeds)
What do you think?

Re: Drop a breastfeed?

She's like mine,a booby monster, who will growl if anyone else tries to touch! LOL.

I wouldn't be dropping the feed, but giving her one side before lunch, and the other after lunch.  She will get getting thirsty and still needs the fluids during the day.

As for her being a fussy eater, i thought all breastfed babies were! LOL.  They go through phases, particularly when teething, and one day, you will give her the soilds and she will finish them quickly and demand more.

Re: Drop a breastfeed?

I'm with Winja - she may not eat any more just because you drop a feed. My DD1 was a GREAT eater and fed at least as often as your DD up until weaned at 26 months. Her solids didnt increase at all when she stopped. Similarly DD2 was weaned at Easter but she is still a TINY eater in comparrison with her big sister - stopping the milk didnt alter a thing. Just offer milk after the meals, or at a non-meal time, so she eats as much food as she needs to feel comfortably full. And look at her growth charts - if she is maintaining her weight ok then she is eating enough. I find it hard to believe as my DD2 eats so little, but DD2 is still on the same bits of the growth charts she was born on.

Re: Drop a breastfeed?

 Hi,

I dont breastfeed but I think bottle is much the same. Do you give her food then breastfeed? because then she will hopefully fill up on food and then just top up with milk.

And aslong as she is eating and is on a stedy weight gain then there shouldent be a problem anyway :)

My daughter looks little and is tall but she is on a stedy line so its not a issue. It would be however is she was going down on the chart (that little age to weight chart).

Hope this helps a little :)

Re: Drop a breastfeed?

Hey chook!

This is really a matter of personal choice here but I will try to help anyway :)

Are you planning on giving up a feed anyway ? Because she may not eat more just because shes not being breastfed. The breastmilk would be providing her with alot of the nutrients she needs anyway so I wouldn't be overly concerned with her not eating heaps.

Chloe didn't eat all that much till she self weaned (14 months) then she just decided she liked food better and had better things to do than look at my glorious face all day long haha

It's up to you, It could work? But then she will probably do it herself soon anyway and you will have less tantrums over it lol

good luck!

No I dont want to drop it unless it will healp her eating. We both enjoy it, I dont see her dropping it on her own accord any time soon. I only recently dropped the afternoon one and it wasnt pretty! LOL!
