Re: Bed wetting at 4 years old
I'm not sure that this will help everyone, but it helped me.
I had the same trouble with my youngster (while in a previous relationship - the youngster was not my son, but I raised him from 3 months to almost 5 years) for some months.
After talking with the doctor, friends and my family, I tried reducing the fluid intake in the the last hour before setting my boy down for the night. I made sure that my boy didn't drink much for about 40 minutes before he went to bed and made sure he did a wee before he was placed in bed.
Kids need to learn to identify ones own bodies tell-tale signs that we need to use the toilet. It can take a while for them to learn, but they will eventually learn. So to help them not have an accident do as I mentioned earlier and reduce the volume of fluids that they take in before going to bed, and make sure they have a decent pee just prior to hopping in bed.
The human body processes fluids quite rapidly, often around an hour after drinking, a person (child or adult) will feel the urge to pee. So lowering the fluid intake for an hour prior to going to bed will certainly lower the chances of your child wetting the bed. You should find this will certainly reduce the frequency of bed wetting, if not putting a halt to it quite quickly.
If your child requires a warm drink to get sleepy, give it to them an hour early, encourage them to have some quiet time and have a story read, or a quiet play with their favorite toys (if quiet play is possible). again, make sure they use the toilet and actually pee, just before going to bed and hopefully they will sleep through without wetting the bed again....
