Indoor fun is easy as long as you don't mind mess,LOL

Hand painting, they usually paint themselves at that age so have the bath ready,LOL.

Mix and mess with flour and water and have bit of dried food like lentils, pasta, peas etc for them to mix in and the mop and brush to clear up,hehe.

Soapy Bath play with bubbles, keep their skin wet so the bubbles land whole on them, ours loved that.

Dress up and face paint.

Hide and seek, usually they close their eyes and think they are invisable, but you can have fun with that and make up story adventures, like going on a bear hunt, cushions being the muddy swamp, the stairs being mountains a scarf being the river,LOL

Camping out inside. Use some sheets over the table to make a tent and have a teddy bears picnic inside and/or a torch to make shapes on the sides of the tent.

Out doors is the same anything you can do indoors you can transfer outdoors.

At the park, hunt the bear, find flowers to look at and leaves to explore, pick up rocks and see what lives underneath, rolly polly down the hill on the grass, find trees and see if fairy's live there, you know you've found a fairy den if there is hole on the trunk or at the base of the tree,LOL.

Imagination is the name of the game, kids dont need a lot of big trips every weekend, they just need your attention and imagination to help them explore fun.

Best Wishes. Winnie.x

Re: Expense free things to do on the weekend with a 14 month old

When my daughter was a little older - say around 18 months I started doing a rainy day beach. I had a big stainess steel mixing bowl and packets of polenta, rice  poppy seeds, any cheap cereal based stuff. I would put her on the floor with a funnel and some kitchen tools like spoons and forks and let her go for it. we would put small amounts through the funnel, then we would mix them together and put them into cups and do it all again.Only use dry ingredients.  I dedicated some space in the kitchen as it was very easy to clean up. I just used a soft brush to dust it up and kept the bowl covered in cling film on top of the fridge. She often wandered around the corner and pointed to the bowl asking to play. Play would last around 40 minutes and I would recycle the seeds once or twice before binning them as they were really only dusty.

She is now nearly 8 and still loves to help in the kitchen. Her skills are really quite good and I think it all started with this play.

we also used to spend a long time playing in the bath, some "drawing" and an indoor obstacle course. It's a hard age to satisfy so I realize nothing will capture attention for long so just keep do about four different things four times over and really take your time, and hopefully you get some peace.

Re: Expense free things to do on the weekend with a 14 month old

Since my son has been walking at about 14mths,  (now 2) we take him to the shopping centre to run around.  If it is raining and cold outside then we usually go to the shopping centre and have morning tea somewhere or afternoon tea.  We go window shopping and just let him run around.  He is so active that some of the things that we do at home like reading books and playing with playdoh, is not enough for him.

In the summer time you can go to the park and take morning tea and have a picnic.   We also go for lots of walks, this is good as you can point things out.

Try your hand at cooking, we usually get a biscuit packet mix and make biscuits together.  Be prepared for alot of mess tho LOL.

Indoor play centres are really good idea and they don't cost a heap the one near us has an entry fee that lasts most of the day so you can come and go as you please.  Just google indoor play centres for your area.

Take some time out for your self, just an hour or so to visit friends or go to the gym or to do your fav hobby.

Hope this helps

Re: Expense free things to do on the weekend with a 14 month old

I would like to know aswel, tho my daughter is only 11 months.

Something I did try was drawing but we just ended up in a big mess lol. But im sure there is something crafty that you can do, (I guess it depends on what level they are at regarding that kind of thing)

So you have drawing, painting, maybe use egg cartons to make frogs and such.

How about turning on some music and dancing, playing follow the leader (or just copying what you do) Or getting out pots and pans and make your own music :D hehe

How about dress ups, make a cubby or a crawl/walking course.

Take photos then next week get them printed off and add stickers (these mite be for a little older child but you know what they are capable of) and im sure if you take photos now they can just make there own little scrap book of themself later on :)

Maybe have a movie day, or a wiggles/dora/hi5 day (whatever they are into)

Some of these may be good ideas for later on but i hope it helps a little :D

I would say anything that you want to do as long as you keep it structured around your child's sleep habits so he/she doesn't turn feral on you - 14 month olds just love being out and about and with mum/dad etc right?  I'm assuming that it is probably you (as the adults) that are bored with the weekends as opposed to your child - I'm sure he/she would go to the zoo/playground etc over and over.

As for inside things - I'm going to closely watch your questions as I struggle with staying indoors with my child too.  She had a blow up pool that I filled with balls that she would climb in and out of at that age, and a pusher that is still her favourite toy...  Other suggestions - playing with soap bubbles, books.  Some kids are into cooking at an early age - although my daughter wasn't until she was about two.
