I forgot to mention my daughter had the same symptons you described, coughing particularly at nite, constant croup attacks, coughing after running and difficulties breathing, specially on high pollen count days. She also had ezcema and was diagnosed offically at 5 with an anaphylatic allergy.
Her allergist specialist says children with asthma are at risk of developing allergies. Children who have both asthma and ezcema are more than likely to develop anaphylatic allergies (life threatening allergies). As you said that he has trouble breathing after drinking or eating dairy you may want to have him checked for anaphylatic allergies. To do this you need to take him to your nearest ER during an attack that you believe was caused by something he ate or drank. I hope that makes sense.
