Maternity Bag
Hi... I need to pack my maternity bag soon to take to hospital but im getting really confused on what exactly i should pack... lol... This is actually baby number 3 and i should know but its been almost 4 years since my last baby and i really cant recall what i did back then :P The hospital did give me a list of stuff but then when i read it, it seems its not enough or im missing something but cant get a hold of what, and it kind of confused me when they wrote to pack dayclothes during your stay to wear during the day? I thought you can just wear your pjamas all day long. I plan on staying at least 3-4 days like i normally did with my other two. I normally like to recover a bit if i have to get stitches and also i dont go til baby gets there 4 day shot or something. So to the point, what are the basic things i should mainly pack for hospital and did you wear your pjamas all day long or did you change to day clothes during the day and back to your pj's? Thanks heaps.

Re: Maternity Bag
congrats jo all the best
i went to the hospital with new bub now 10 weeks old today (nichola) over prepared as i knew that there was the chance of a rather lenghty stay due to her complications i took the following
- things i needed (ie) underwear, socks, changes of clothes, pj's, mp3&ipod,puzzle books, magazines, reading books, i took my daughters ds, breast pads ( altough i didnt breast feed), normal pads, i even took some of my own snacks as the hospital food was really crap this time around and all of your toiletries
- things for bubs (ie) if you dont wish for bub to spend all of the time in hospital clothes than you may wish to pack some for him/her, nappies (as some hospitals dont supply them/if your does than none is needed, depending on how you plan to feed bub (ie) formula feeding you may need to take formula and bottles (some hospitals do supply formula and bottle depending where you are, you will need baby wipes
although you may not need as much as your stay will be alot shorter than mine was its always best to have something to do while bubs is asleep
i mainly wore day clothes as i was always coming and going alot as she spent the first 4 days of her life in an incubator but after that we were there for almost 2 weeks all up

Re: Maternity Bag
You will need clothes for you and bub, but you can stay in pj's if that's what you want, you need to take your own nappies and nappy wipes, as these are no longer supplied (apparently they stopped supplying them in 2003).
Taking a good book or something to do is a must, there is only so much staring at a wall you can do, and you aren't supposed to leave the maternity ward for long periods of time.
You need all your toiletries, including sanitary pads and nursing pads. Again, none of this is supplied.
If you are bottle feeding, you need to take your own bottles and formula because again, they don't supply it.
To tell you the truth, next time I have a baby, all I'll be packing is what bub and I will be wearing home because I can't stand being in hospital! LOL. If I'm not sick, then why should I be there? It is much better to get back home to the ferals and get on with getting back to normal, besides, rest is a word that I do not associate with hospitals, especially maternity wards!

Re: Maternity Bag
HI,
Congrats and hope it all goes well. I did stay in my p.j's for the whole time, though my p.j's are normal p.j pants and a t-shirt or singlet. Anyway I took in 2 pairs of p.j's and 3 or 4 t-shirts. A couple of bras and numerous undies. I also packed something to wear home. My slippers. If I needed more I just got hubby to bring it in, he also took home my dirty stuff. I was in for 5 days.
For Bubs I just took in I think 4 singlets, growsuits, and a couple of little beanies. Also some bunny rugs, and blanket to put under those hospital cots are not soft. I also took in his dummies, and some nipple cream. If you're planning on bottle feeding you'll need your bottles and fornula obviously.
I also had my toiletires, obviously lol.
Like I said i just sent my husband a message if I needed anything before I went to sleep and he'd bring it in, in the morning.
Not sure how much help this has been it's been a couple of years since I was there.
Good luck
